Today, Ms Monica Geingos joined former President Hifikepunye Pohamba, H.E Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, the bereaved family, national leaders and mourners for the burial of Madam Penehupifo Pohamba, Namibia’s Second First Lady, at the Pohamba Family Cemetery in Okanghudi Village, Ohangwena Region.
Though her earthly journey has come to an end, the values she upheld and the lives she touched will remain part of the legacy she leaves behind, carried forward by generations to come.
Some farewells remind us of the privilege of having shared in another person’s journey, and the responsibility of remembering the lives that helped shape our own.
Today, Ms Monica Geingos joined the Pohamba family, national leaders and mourners at the Pohamba Family Residence in Okanghudi Village, Ohangwena Region, for the memorial service of the late Madam Pohamba, Namibia’s Second First Lady.
Her contribution to Namibia extended beyond healthcare. She was part of the country’s liberation journey, leaving Namibia to join the struggle for independence and serving in different capacities along the way. Her story is also one of personal sacrifice, courage and an enduring commitment to her family and country.
Her life reminds us that nation-building is not only shaped by those whose names appear in history books, but also by the many women and men whose service, sacrifices and quiet contributions help build a nation.
As the family and nation reflect on her remarkable journey, Madam Pohamba will be laid to rest tomorrow, Saturday, 31 October 2026, at the Pohamba Family Cemetery, Pohamba homestead, Okanghudi Village, Ohangwena Region.
Our heartfelt condolences remain with the Pohamba family, her loved ones and all those mourning her passing.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
A shared love of books can open doors to new cultures, ideas and perspectives.
The @BeFreeYouth Campus welcomed a delegation from the Embassy of Japan in Namibia; comprising of H.E. Shinichi Asazuma, Ambassador of Japan to Namibia; Mrs. Chisato Asazuma, Spouse of the Ambassador; and Mr. Akira Sanno, Head of Political, Culture and Information.
The engagement highlighted the Read Japan Project, which will donate 27 books on Japanese history, culture, politics, literature and language to the Campus.
At #BeFree Youth Campus, we are equally committed to nurturing a culture of reading and storytelling. Through our library, Writers’ Club and #BeFree Bookworms Podcast, we encourage young people to discover books, develop their writing skills and share ideas through the power of stories.
Ms Monica Geingos joins mourners at the memorial service of the late Madame Penehupifo Hashoowalindishi Pohamba, Second First Lady of the Republic of Namibia, held at Parliament Gardens in Windhoek.
Ms Geingos encouraged for the completion of Madame Pohamba’s final initiative: distributing medical equipment and supplies to communities in need, ensuring that her commitment to improving lives continues beyond her passing.
In her message to the bereaved family, she encouraged former President Hifikepunye Pohamba to allow himself to grieve and urged the children to uphold the unity their mother valued so deeply.
Madame Pohamba’s life remains a testament to the power of combining gentleness with strength, and to a legacy of love, compassion and dedicated service to the Namibian people.

Her story is a reminder that age does not define the size of a dream or the impact a young person can make.
Young people are not waiting for their turn. They are taking up space, making their voices heard and creating opportunities for others to follow.
Ms Monica Geingos, attended the launch of 14-year-old Jobina Shovaleka’s second book, We Will Always Remember That One Girl Named Lilly, and the launch of the Jobina Shovaleka Foundation at the @BeFreeYouth Youth Campus.
The occasion was graced by the presence of the Right Honourable Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia, who delivered the keynote address.
In her remarks, Ms Geingos highlighted the importance of young people discovering and pursuing their individual talents. She commended Jobina for thinking beyond her own achievements and establishing a foundation aimed at inspiring other children to explore reading, writing and storytelling.
The Prime Minister celebrated Jobina’s accomplishments, emphasising that dreams and talents are worth pursuing. He also recognised her leadership in establishing the foundation and selecting its trustees at such a young age.
Through her books and foundation, Jobina hopes to inspire more children to discover the joy of reading, writing and storytelling.
