Morning Briefing: Oklahoma, Kansas & Texas Severe Storms
Severe Weather Overview:
A few tornadoes and damaging thunderstorm winds are possible across the Southern and Central Plains this afternoon through tonight.
SPC expects thunderstorms to become organized as an approaching storm system encounters increasingly warm, moist air over Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. Strong winds at different levels of the atmosphere could allow storms to rotate and organize into damaging lines.
- 15% for Severe Winds
- 5% for Tornadoes | Large Hail
Oklahoma: Tornado and damaging wind threat
A combination of strong wind shear and increasing low-level moisture could support supercells and rotating sections of storm lines. A greater tornado threat is possible if individual storms remain separated into late afternoon or early evening.
Kansas: Organized storms spreading northeast
Parts of eastern and southeastern Kansas could experience severe thunderstorms, damaging winds and a few tornadoes. The strongest tornado potential depends on storm organization and how much daytime instability develops.
North-central Texas: Discrete supercells possible
The SPC identifies north/central Texas as an area where isolated supercells could develop before storms consolidate into a larger line. That raises concern for damaging winds and a couple of tornadoes.
Eastern Oklahoma / Western Missouri: Overnight severe threat
A larger line of storms may move into this area close to midnight, bringing damaging gusts and possible brief tornadoes embedded within the line.
Severe Weather Timeline โ Mountain Standard Time (MST):
10 AMโ1 PM: Moisture and instability increase across the Plains
1โ4 PM: Thunderstorms begin developing across portions of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas
4โ7 PM: Storms strengthen; greatest concern for organized supercells and damaging winds
7โ10 PM: Storm clusters consolidate and advance eastward
10 PMโEarly Tuesday: Damaging winds and brief tornado potential shift toward eastern Oklahoma and western Missouri
Note: These are approximate forecast windows, not exact storm arrival times. Oklahoma, Kansas and most of Texas observe Central Standard Time (CST), which is one hour ahead of MST.
Four Corners Flooding Emergency & Major Flooding & Evacuations
Morning Situation Report | November 2, 2026
FOUR CORNERS ยท SOUTHWEST COLORADO ยท NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO ยท ARIZONA ยท UTAH
Situation Overview
Significant flooding is occurring across the Four Corners region, with mandatory evacuations, river flooding, rescues and road closures reported.
Southwestern Colorado is experiencing some of the most serious conditions, particularly around Pagosa Springs, Durango and communities along the San Juan and Animas rivers.
Heavy rainfall Sunday fell on ground already saturated by previous storms. Even as rainfall decreases in some locations, dangerous river flooding is continuing downstream
Where the most significant impacts are occurring:
Pagosa Springs, Colorado: Potentially catastrophic river flooding. Officials warned that the San Juan River could crest at approximately 21.9 feet Sunday night, compared with approximately 17.8 feet during the destructive 1911 flood. Downtown and low-lying areas were evacuated, and roads into town were closed. The forecast crest is not a confirmed observed crest.
Durango, Colorado / La Plata County: Evacuations and closed roads. Evacuations were ordered near the rapidly rising Animas River. Authorities also reported extensive road closures, complicating access for emergency responders and residents.
Farmington, New Mexico / San Juan County: Major river flooding forecast The NWS reported minor flooding occurring on the San Juan River at Farmington at 2 AM MST, with a rise to major flood stage forecast. Local emergency managers also issued evacuation alerts for people within half a mile of the Animas, La Plata and San Juan rivers
Sedona, Arizona and central Arizona: Flood rescues and evacuations. Rapidly rising Oak Creek trapped residents and prompted evacuation orders. State air rescue crews assisted with rooftop evacuations, while other communities, including Gisela and Camp Verde, also faced evacuation orders.
River flooding: Latest verified NWS measurements
Location, Reported Stage Situation
- Animas River near Cedar Hill, NM
12.5 ft at 2 AM MST
Major flooding occurring
- San Juan River at Farmington, NM
9.0 ft at 2 AM MST
Major flooding forecast; crest 12.7 ft
- San Juan River at Shiprock, NM
15.2 ft at 3 AM MST
Moderate flooding forecast
The NWS reported that the Animas River near Cedar Hill was near historically high levels, with inundation possible in places that had not experienced flooding before. The Shiprock warning indicated significant impacts along the San Juan River toward Four Corners
Why the flooding became so serious?
Three factors have combined:
- Unusually heavy rainfall: A moisture-rich Pacific storm system brought widespread precipitation, with some areas receiving several months' worth of rain over a short period.
- Already saturated ground: Previous flooding left soils and waterways unable to absorb or carry much additional runoff.
- Mountainous terrain and interconnected rivers: Water runs rapidly out of the mountains, then moves downstream into communities that may experience their worst flooding after the heaviest rainfall ends.
WPC had forecast rainfall rates of approximately 0.5โ1 inch per hour, with 1โ3 inches in six hours possible in favored Four Corners terrain Sunday

โผ๏ธURGENT PRAYER REQUESTโผ๏ธ
Durango, CO is in harms way tonight.
-I have friends whose homes have flooded
-Elderly friends with a river at their front door, literally.
-Ambulances just flew by
-Bridges are going (smaller ones)
@ColoradoDOT is working thru the night!
@DurangoPolice & @lpcsheriff are evacuating people right now. Babies, the poor, trailer parks
The scenes are catastrophic and it is supposed to rain ALL NIGHT LONG!
Pray for the hospitals, the first responders, the bridge & road crews.
As I type, Iโm getting county messages of new zones to evacuate. But those roads are closing, options are limited, people are trapped and itโs terrifying.
Please pray.
Amazing Job!
Incredible job by my good friend @phillywxguy_ both online and in life.
