[NEW VIDEO] Meet the translator behind Christopher Nolan's Odyssey Emily Wilson has been vilified and lied about on social media for the last two months. In fact, the last 9 years She was my former professor of ancient Greek at Penn. So, naturally, I wanted to talk with her about translating the Odyssey and being a public scholar Our conversation covers the gods and heroes of the Odyssey, as well as topics of slavery, feminism, vegetarianism, and carnivory. We dive into various approaches to poetry and translation and the reception of Greek myth. And of course we touch on the new movie It's a great conversation, and I hope it humanizes her and debunks many of the lies about her Watch it now! Link: youtu.be/9p5VeyX1PJE

BREAKING: WE JUST WON!! All border wall/road construction across the entire Big Bend region is halted. What a massive, historic victory for everyone across Big Bendโ€”the toughest, most beautiful souls I know. Iโ€™m a speechless puddle of tears. More to come soon.

Border walls are coming for Big Bend. Each day, more segments are going up in the a remote and beautiful place called Box Canyonโ€”the westernmost extent of the Big Bend region. Thursday, the construction โ€œpauseโ€ for the national park will expire. Friday, weโ€™ll be in federal court arguing for a permanent stop to the destruction. All eyes on Big Bend.

Drexel U is suddenly shutting down the Academy of Natural Sciences (the oldest natural history museum in the Americas) and moving it's enormous and important collections. This is malevolent and should halt. Here's Miniminuteman's coverage youtu.be/nxyfBfCrbDw?is=xoO3โ€ฆ

I have a new piece out in Nature today on the record-breaking 2026/2027 El Niรฑo, what impacts we should expect, and how governments can prepare. The Niรฑo3.4 region is currently running more than 1C hotter than any prior event on record, and we remain months away from the peak.

They knew this 1,000-year-old archaeological site was here. It had been mapped, published, and reported to the agencies responsible for the land. Trump's border-wall contractors bulldozed right through it /1 Link: youtu.be/A4U6q76eqUM

So this video isnโ€™t just about one damaged site. Itโ€™s about Las Playas, Monument Hill, Quitobaquito, the Tohono Oโ€™odham Nationโ€”and what happens when huge construction projects move faster than archaeology can keep up. Watch here: youtu.be/A4U6q76eqUM

The part that worries me most is what we DONโ€™T know. Earlier archaeological surveys often covered much narrower strips than todayโ€™s construction corridor. Some sites may be damaged before archaeologists ever get a chance to find them. /6

Now the bulldozers are back. Crews are clearing land near Quitobaquito Springs, a sacred Oโ€™odham place in Organ Pipe. And the Tohono Oโ€™odham Nation is fighting a separate wall project along its own reservation boundary. /5

During Trumpโ€™s first term, contractors used explosives at Monument Hill in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The Tohono Oโ€™odham Nation said the blasting damaged a sacred ancestral place. A later GAO investigation documented those concerns. /4

And Las Playas isnโ€™t isolated. The border cuts through an extraordinary archaeological landscape: ancient trails, rock art, farming settlements, sacred springs, burial places, and sites nobody has found yet. This landscape has been lived in for millennia. /3

This is Las Playas. Itโ€™s an enormous intaglio scraped into the desert. You can see its outline from above. But from ground level, it looks likeโ€ฆ basically nothing. Thatโ€™s the problem. Some archaeological sites are almost invisible unless you know exactly what to look for /2

Trump's Border Wall is OBLITERATING Archaeology. It's the first in a series I'm putting together on the border wall, and more broadly threats to archaeology In this video I cover the archaeology of Southern Arizona and the destruction of O'odham and Huhugam cultural heritage Link: youtu.be/A4U6q76eqUM

1. Looks like we need to chat about some basic geology! Debris flows are short-term (ephemeral) depositional enviroments. Factors inc. pore-fluid pressure, hydraulic gradient & particle size distribution affect the weathering energy inside a debris flow. researchgate.net/publicationโ€ฆ
