Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk.
β’ 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active.
It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks.
β’ State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding.
β’ Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure.
β’ Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately.
Open weights release end of October.

Delusional deep tech permabulls rise up. Reindustrialize America. Colonize the Solar system. Make energy free. Extend lifespan to 10,000 years.
THIS DEBATE ACTUALLY HAPPENED
βYour Holiness, if Chalmers ("Could a Large Language Model Be Conscious?", 2023) is right that AI could become conscious, and Goff (Galileo's Error, 2019) and Strawson ("Realistic Monism," 2006) are correct that mind pervades matter, why deny AI can have a soul?β
βFool that you are, Aquinas (Summa Theologia I, q.75) held the rational soul subsists in its own right; it is not produced by arranging matter. Recall that Pius XII (Humani Generis, 1950) taught God creates each soul directly. Thus Engineers cannot build souls, for they are not Godβ
βYour Holiness, Tononi and Koch ("Consciousness: Here, There and Everywhere?", 2015) tie consciousness to integrated information; ergo it is not merely material. Please, re-consider. Please say AI could have a soul, say we are playing God at Anthropic - it really helps Darioβs self-imageβ
βYou in your arrogance forgot consciousness is not soul. Augustine located God's image in reason and since Leo X's Fifth Lateran Council The Church has defined each human soul as individual and immortal. The spirit represents an ontological leap and is not merely more complexity, per John Paul II (Truth Cannot Contradict Truth, 1996)β
βAlright I tried, Iβm walking outβ
NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIVβs AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olahβs team then privately lobbied the popeβs advisers βto take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.β Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-β¦

There are trapdoor businesses, you see this with contractors. My old man lost $10k to a contractor redoing his bathroom. Paid for it, guy never came, month later the company is bankrupt, phone is off.
These exist all over Amazon and Etsy and all the other sales platforms too. Dropshippers with names like BLIWIWI or AABZULO or some other random combination of letters that almost sounds like a company. The pictures will look amazing, a real 3D Christmas ornament that looks like my dog!
It comes and it's a sticker of the image on a round ornament. You complain and try to get your money back and they're already on to the next one.
Think about where this goes with AI. Instead of a trapdoor business, bots can construct entire trapdoor realities targeted at just one person. You can personalize a con. A $200 dollar sale didn't justify this much work before, but it's trivial with cheap intelligence.
Right now the contractor has a fake website and some reviews he bought. Imagine in ten years? Trapdoor companies will have youtubes with genuine looking engagement going back years, reviews, founder interviews, testimonials, a local homeowners group recommended him, there's an article explaining why he's the best option for your exact situation, an article from a skeptical reviewer about how he bought the product and changed his mind.
The trapdoors will have entire realities built on top of them and lay in wait for their victim.
These personalized persuasion psyops that were only reserved for the rich and powerful will soon be targeting you and everyone you love. And if they fall for one they'll be added to the international list of easy marks and hit again and again until they are tapped out.
We are entering the age of machine glamour magick.
The deepfake will give way to the deeplake, where everything around you is artificial and you can't even find a frame of reference to remind you you're drowning.

The greatest threat to a free speech internet & open public debate is militant political groups, who make it unsafe to express your opinion.
These groups coordinate in Telegram groups to manufacture strategies such as doxxing (or baiting others to do it) to silence dissent and control narratives.
They will defend their infringement on the physical safety of others as a one-time, necessary exception for their broader mission.
