It's so crazy to me how people don't realise this. You can easily spend 2 years writing a fic. I have. And someone who's spent a few hours reading will come and moan to you because they feel disrespected or exploited or whatever. Like if anyone is being exploited it's the WRITER.

Actually, this is good. People whoβs like βI use ao3 every day but Iβd NEVER donateβ and βauthors SHOULDββ or βI donβt read WIPs and I donβt comment or leave kudosβ, etc etc etc, can use this time from reflection

ao3 going down for a month is an awfully apt conclusion to the past two weeks of people acting weird towards fic writers
Dear lord the fics being posted on day one of A03 coming back after a month is going to look like tsunami. So many fics will get lost in the flood.

AO3 IS RUN BY VOLUNTEERS
they do not get paid for any of this. be kind, patient, and respectful to the volunteers who work hard to keep ao3 running, fight against censorship, and protect writers, fanfics, and peopleβs rights/freedom to write whatever they want, however they want

in case anyone needs a refresher: you can paste a fics URL into the wayback machine and read it as if you are on AO3. only catch is that newer fics are less likely to be archived.
