My latest for @TorontoStar, reporting from the occupied West Bank as settlers continue rampaging through Palestinian communities with impunity.
My report starts in Taybeh, the only remaining village in the West Bank with an overwhelmingly Christian population. Taybeh is referenced in both the Old and New Testaments as the town of Ephraim, where the Gospel of John says Jesus sought refuge before his crucifixion. Over the last few decades, Taybeh has seen more than 90% of its population emigrate out of Palestine due to mounting economic restrictions and settler violence.
Without a state of their own or meaningful protection under Israeli law, one of the only protections Palestinians have is a small but growing number of Israeli activists who are flocking to the West Bank to support them.
In a group chat with more than 200 members, Israeli activists co-ordinate their protective presence in Taybeh and the surrounding area. Many face harsh reprisals from their communities for helping Palestinians.
“My family and the religious community don’t really like this. Part of it is because they are right-wing or nationalist chauvinists ... and part of it is because they genuinely don’t understand what’s happening here,” said Yonatan Rothschild, an Orthodox Jew whom I met in a Bedouin community near Taybeh.
“I’m here because I think that as a Jew I have no other choice ... it’s written in the Torah that one must rescue the oppressed from the hand of his oppressor. And there is really a situation here of severe oppression and theft,” Rothschild said.

today we’re revealing gondor v1, the first margin account for @polymarket
v1 lets traders cross-margin their polymarket portfolio and use the credit to buy more shares
tradfi unlocked capital efficiency through prime brokerage. v1’s ambition is to become the prime brokerage for prediction markets
private access starts next week
a “10x leverage for polymarket” protocol launched recently
it’s all fun and games until you count the fees:
say you go 10x with $100 on a 50c market opening a $1000 position
origination
2.5% of position size = $25
polymarket fees
say 2% of position size, varies by category = $20
financing
0.05% of loan per day = ~20% effective annual, compounding
total
($25 + $20) / $100 = 45% upfront, plus financing and liquidation penalties on top

Thanks to @ForsterSam and Canadian Affairs for taking an interest in the evolving Asia LNG story and what it means for Canada. Pleased to contribute to the this piece alongside @ExnerPirot. The time to get LNG 2 and Ksi Lisims across the FID line is now.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is creating an opportunity for Canada’s LNG industry.
As Asian importers like Japan and South Korea seek to bypass global maritime chokepoints, Canada’s direct route to the Pacific offers a significant ''geopolitical premium.''

Totally agree with @dicktofel.
Starting long news stories with an anecdotal lead needs to end. Everyone is busy and has shorter attention spans. Writers shouldn't need to tell a person's story to convey an issue's importance. It buries the substance.
