ALT Professor Ronald Hutton smiles in what looked like a stone and red panelled dungeon. He wears a brown tweed / check jacket and glossy brown waistcoat and cravat. His hair is brown and shoulder length. He is wearing glasses.

ALT A full length, seated, figure of the Greek God Pan. His lower half is goat, his upper is muscular man with a goat-y beard and horns. He is rendered in pale stone and is in a room of similar pale stone. The window behind Pan is barred, presumably to prevent him from escaping when the mood takes him.

ALT Next EdFortSoc: 9th September Gordon Rutter will talk on Siberian Cauldrons. Not a cookery lesson nor an investigation into Baba Yaga. Amongst other things the Siberian Cauldrons have been claimed as a global defence system – and some say they were responsible for the Tunguska event! They are in fact giant, mysterious copper or metal dome-shaped objects rumoured to be hidden in a remote swampy region of Yakutia, Russia, known as the “Valley of Death” Apparently. Come along to find out about this little known piece of Fortean Folklore and find out what has happened to those who went looking for them. And find out why I didn’t go looking for them! Wednesday 9th of September The Royal Oak 1 Infirmary Street Edinburgh 7.30pm, £1

ALT Let us gaze on Jeremy Harte in this picture. Semi formal in white shirt and grey jacket but the white blows through his white hair and you get a sense that his moustache, too, is ruffled. He sits at the front of a classic, wooded gypsy caravan, painted in bright greens and yellows decorated by grapes and other fruit. Jeremy gaze looks weary at first but look longer into those eyes, there is a calm curiosity and compassion there. This is a man who has witnessed wonders in life, as well as in libraries, and he is here to share some with you.

ALT A simple woodcut cover of a man digging a hole in the ground to bury a trunk of treasure. Some coins sit in front of the chest to confirm this. The only witnesses to this scene is the moon, stars and a single, solitary, skulking cloud. The text on the cover is 'Treasures on Earth: Buried Wealth in Landscape and Legend'. 'Jeremy Harte'.
