Here is the terrifying truth about homeschooling:
You are 100% responsible. No scapegoats. No luxury of blaming other teachers for not doing their jobs.
Zero excuses. Just you.
And there's more bad news.
Parents who choose homeschooling aren't escaping educational problems. They're trading them for a mirror that reflects their own flaws.
Your kids' biggest educational obstacle might be staring back at you in the bathroom mirror each morning.
Your impatience, laziness, and apathy don't disappear when you homeschool. They're amplified. You'll have front-row IMAX tickets to watch your own flaws shape your children in real-time, in high definition, 24/7.
When you seek more influence over your children's education (and you should) you get EXACTLY what you asked for.
For better or worse.
So what's the good news?
The good news is the same as the bad news. You're 100% responsible for these problems.
With God's grace, you can start weeding out your flaws. It's slow and painful, but taking the log from your own eye is the essential first step.
Homeschooling isn't just education for your children.
It's sanctification for YOU. Embrace it. Start tugging those logs out with both hands. This process is the path to real growth for your entire family.
Public schools offer the false comfort of an idol, a temporary opiate rather than a cure.
Homeschooling forces you to take a scalpel to your own heart and face problems honestly. It's harder, but it's real.
And one final thing...👇
They want the fruit without the planting and none of the responsibility.
Their whole project falls apart if they can't indoctrinate other people's kids.
Almost every anti-homeschooling person just wants kids... without having kids... so they want your kids, to do whatever evil and twisted things they can get away with...
The fact conservatives and Christians have been giving them their kids for decades is a testament to a level of laziness or stupidity unheard of in human history.

"Your homeschooled kids need socialization."
"They have 5 siblings and 17 cousins they hang out with a lot."
"Not like that."
"We go to church twice a week and they talk with all sorts of people."
"Not like that."
"They do intramural sports and play with all sorts of other kids."
"Not like that."
"There are lots of kids in the neighborhood and at the local park they interact with."
"Not like that."
"Our homeschool co-op meets once per week, with parents rotating as teachers."
"Not like that."
"Ok. So...what do you mean by socialization then?"
"You need to send them away every single day to sit with children their own age for 6 hours. And let me teach them with no supervision from you."
"Oh. No thanks."

Life insurance companies have known for 40 years that married men live longer than single men. They price it in. They bet their money on marriage.
And marriage is still good for men. It's basic math.

A wife expects her husband home for dinner. She notices the cough he'd ignore. She schedules the checkup he'd skipped for a decade.
Left to himself, a man will defer his own health until it's too late.
The unmarried man postpones the dentist until the tooth is gone.
If the magistrate wielding the sword absolutely perfectly is a requirement for wielding that sword, then no authority is valid, and no one is allowed to pursue justice of any kind.
It's a dumb argument for anarchism.

Finished The Count of Monte Cristo. Honestly wish it was a little bit longer.

It was always funny to me how often I would hear: "Wait, you're homeschooled? How do get socialization?"
I had activities with other kids literally every single day of the week.
Sun - Church
Mon - Orchestra
Tues - Scouting
Wed - AWANA (after I aged out, I volunteered)
Thurs - Co-op
Fri - Theater
Sat - Scouting events or something else random

“But they won’t be NORMAL”
Exactly.
Normal = ugly, stupid, and gay

Reading a few Louis L'Amour novels would be better for most teenage boys than attending yet another Bible study where the teenagers are asked "And what did *you* think about this verse?"
It would certainly be more practical.
"How many kids do they have?" the girl asked her mom.
"Too many," the woman said as she let the door shut.
I stood inside the restaurant, stunned.
She was saying: some of these kids should not exist. That sums up one of the central tenets of our culture.
I have three kids. That day I had two of my friends' with me, so we looked like a bigger family than usual, but still barely enough to field a basketball team. Hardly a huge number.
And the woman's annoyance was the 2nd time, in under 15 seconds, that someone had said something about the number of children with us.
On the way in, an old man held the door and counted the children aloud.
When he reached five, he puffed out his cheeks and shook his head, exhausted from counting so high.
And that was it. I wouldn't have thought anything of it. Some people don't know what to say or how to react, and so they make a fool of themselves.
"You know how those are made, right? Yuk yuk yuk." Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, haha, how hilarious and original.
Whatever.
But follow it up immediately with a woman openly hostile, and a more sinister pattern emerges.
We used to treat children as wealth. Now we treat them as annoyances.
The only thing you should say when you encounter a large family, if you say anything at all, is some permutation of "You have a beautiful family."
No one thinks your joke is funny.
And if your daughter asks you why a family has so many kids, you should have a ready and honest answer:
"Because they are blessed."
