Cooperation between parties used to be common, often because everyone knew what was at stake if they didn't work together. Everyone who lived through the WWII era knew we could never make the mistakes that lead to that tragic horror again. Their descendants forgot.

I keep hearing the same exhausted vocabulary in Europe: Putin only understands the rapport de force. We must โshow strength.โ We must โbe ready to respond.โ
Ready? Russia is already conducting hybrid warfare on European soil. Sabotage, cyberattacks, drones, airspace violations these are no longer theoretical warnings about what Russia MIGHT do.
โRapport de forceโ was a meaningful proposition in 2022. Perhaps even in 2023. But deterrence is not something you announce after spending years demonstrating how desperately you want to avoid confrontation. Europe gave Russia something strategically priceless: time. Time to adapt, rearm, test boundaries, study our reactions and repeatedly discover how much can be done without producing a serious cost.
And please, stop FINALLY reducing Russia to Putin.
While Europe spent years psychoanalysing one man: what Putin thinks, fears, respects, Russia was transforming institutions and another generation. Drone assembly and operation are entering school education. Teachers are being trained to teach UAV skills. The state says it wants one million UAV specialists by 2030.
I see Europe that keeps preparing for the Russia it failed to understand in 2022, while Russia has spent the years since 2022 becoming something else. You cannot manufacture deterrence with another declaration that โwe are ready to respond.โ
Deterrence exists when the other side believes you will act before it tests you again. Be honest with yourself.
The Fed raised interest rates. Stocks are mostly down. Some will be down for awhile. Some are buying opportunities.
All things considered, I think the petroleum clusterfuck makes the coming weeks a good time to invest in renewable energy companies. Fuck oil dependence.
I think the the key takeaways from recent events are "invest heavily in developing renewable energy, end petroleum dependence, don't rely too heavily on one ally, and don't vote for russia-sucking, corrupt, double digit IQ psychopaths."
Russia's long game is cutting off and isolating the US, driving wedges between westerners, and stoking blind hatred, dividing Ukraine supporters everywhere. Making Americans, Slovaks, Georgians, Hungarians, and other people struggling with far right governments and fighting to increase support for Ukraine feel hopeless, hated, and alone in their struggle fits in with that. If you're contributing to this hatred, russia thanks you for your service.

Apparently Mitch really is alive, but I noticed this, too. He needed to be buckled in by someone else, and his facial expression never changed from that same frozen grin in the earlier photos.

After watching C Span for a few minutes, he's obviously holding conversations and shaking hands, so he's operational. He doesn't move much beyond that. His hands and arms are obviously very weak, but not paralyzed. He can turn his head, but rarely does and spends an awful lot of time facing straight ahead, even when there's nobody there to look at.
Actual sense of right and wrong aside, everyone with two brain cells to rub together understands that Trump's dumpster fire in the Middle East is the primary driver of skyrocketing costs.
