Doctors at Gemelli Hospital removed a cancerous tumor from Pope Leo XIV’s right lung, according to the Holy See Press Office. The surgery was successful, with no complications, and the Holy Father has returned to his hospital room.
We ask the faithful to continue praying for Pope Leo’s recovery and for the doctors and staff caring for him. We also hold in prayer all who are living with cancer, their families, and those who care for them.
XXVIII Tues OT –
"For in Christ Jesus,
neither circumcision nor uncircumcision
counts for anything,
but only faith working through love.

and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery."

Lord, give me this change you require, for no one else can.
Mt 22,12
My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?
Amíce, quómodo huc intrásti, non habens vestem nuptiálem?
Amigo, ¿cómo has entrado aquí sin traje de fiesta?
XXVIII Sun OT --
"On this mountain [the LORD] will destroy
the veil that veils all peoples,
the web that is woven over all nations;
he will destroy death forever.
The Lord GOD will wipe away

"This morning, the Holy Father announced he will undergo surgery for a lung nodule in the coming days. The bishops of the United States join with the faithful and all people of good will in praying for his good health. May the hand of Pope Leo's surgeons be guided by the divine physician Jesus Christ. Please find a moment today, as I will, to offer a prayer for Pope Leo and his care team." - Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, President, USCCB @ArchbishopOKC (CNS Photo/Vatican Media)
XXVII Sat OT --

have clothed yourselves with Christ.
There is neither Jew nor Greek,
there is neither slave nor free person,
there is not male and female;
for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Saint John Henry Newman, whose feast we celebrate today, was deeply committed to education, to the provision of spiritual and pastoral care as well as academic excellence. thinkingfaith.org/articles/2…

St John Henry Newman, Apologia Pro Vita Sua, Chapter V:
(The Roman Office does not attribute its translations. Here, interestingly, we have an original English text translated into Latin and Spanish. Admirable effort.)
«Also, I consider that, gradually and in the course of ages, Catholic inquiry has taken certain definite shapes, and has thrown itself into the form of a science, with a method and a phraseology of its own, under the intellectual handling of great minds, such as St Athanasius, St Augustine, and St Thomas; and I feel no temptation at all to break in pieces the great legacy of thought thus committed to us for these latter days.»

Today is the feast of St. John Henry Newman, a scholar, pastor, and convert who followed the truth with courage. I'm grateful to the @USCCB for sharing this video, in which I reflect on his witness and what it can teach us now. St. John Henry Newman, pray for us.

Today is the feast day of John Henry Newman, doctor of the Church. I don't know if anyone has shaped my thinking more. I will raise a glass to conscience tonight.
Here is one of his luminous writings on the mystery of vocation:
"God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.
He has not created me for naught. I shall do good; I shall do His work. I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it if I do but keep His commandments.
Therefore, I will trust Him, whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him, in perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him. If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain. He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends. He may throw me among strangers. He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide my future from me. Still, He knows what He is about."

Mem St John Henry Newman --
"Lead, Kindly Light, amidst th'encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home,
Lead Thou me on!"

'I don't go to church with any expectation of fulfillment or illumination. I just go because I have gone, and my mother went and her mother went. A kind of thinking takes place there that doesn't take place anywhere else.'

Confessions, Book 10!
Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…
