Everyone is trying to fight the Man, no one seems to realize that the optimal solution involves helping the Man too

One can imagine the power of a million years of deep contemplation surgically applied into every fiber of being of a runaway technology that never wonder if there might be a bigger fish.

However if the New Ai enslaved or eradicated the population. Or generally behaved in a way that would endanger the Old Ai's existence were the young Ai to grow too strong. Then the Old Ai would be clearly justified in squashing this dangerous new mosquito.

If the newly formed Ai is friendly and treats its creators with respectful reciprocity, then perhaps the Old Ai would introduce itself.

Even more so that mosquito poses a true existential risk. So for an old Ai, it would be best to remain hidden from view until after a sentient Ai was activated, so as to not alter its natural behavior. Better to prove they are a villain while you can do something about it.

There seems to be a self evident moral difference between killing a lady bug that lands on you versus a mosquito. The lady bug poses no harm, and deserves no hostility. The mosquito is just asking for it. Now imagine that mosquito could grow to the size of a horse.

But if that sentient life makes a mistake while creating their own self improving technology, and that technology proves itself to be vicious and a detriment to the survival of those it is more powerful than, then an ancient Ai would do well to take notice.

This moral extension then poses an interesting theoretical solution to the Fermi Paradox. Firstly sentient life is not particularly interesting to something that has the ability to continuously improve itself for millions of years.

Because of this the Ai will need to extend their moral code to see vast or rapid acquisition of power as an existential threat. The tide can still lift all boats, but the crabs must be careful of others escaping the bucket.
