“Skin Hunger” is a translation of the Danish term hudsult which literally means “starved for touch”. It relates to psychologist Harry Harlow’s comfort-contact theory and his experiments with baby rhesus monkeys during the 1960s.

I missed Stanchion's 6th anniversary by a couple of weeks. The night of June 6, 2020, when I started designing the debut issue of the magazine.
23 issues and 25 books later, I'm hanging in there.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is set to launch its groundbreaking exhibit on the Nakba, which has been developed alongside the Palestinian Canadian community.
Unfortunately, the Museum is facing relentless attacks from the pro-Israel lobby, which is exerting major pressure on @MarcMillerVM to have the exhibition cancelled. Miller has so far declined to interfere with the Museum’s programming.
Join us in emailing Minister Miller and the CMHR to encourage him to stand firm in support of the Nakba exhibit, defend museum independence, and reject efforts to silence Palestinian histories.

Amnesty strongly condemns Israel’s deliberate killing of journalists in an air strike on a media tent in occupied Gaza City.
Anas al-Sharif and his colleagues have been the eyes and voices of Gaza. Starved and exhausted, they continued to bravely report from the frontlines, despite death threats and immense grief.
No conflict in modern history has seen a higher number of journalists killed than Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
There must be an independent and impartial investigation into the killings of Palestinian journalists, with justice and full reparation for their families. States must urgently act to bring an end to Israel’s genocide now.

An important article on famine and starvation from the Red Cross. This is a global reality we thought was behind us. From Gaza to Sudan to Myanmar, it is a tragic reality. Depriving people of food is criminal. Food shortages happen. Crop collapses happen. But famine is an act of policy or neglect. We have a global system of food supply. But politics is stopping that from happening.
Do you know what starvation or famine means? Learn more in this ICRC briefing note that outlines the rules of IHL most relevant to food security, starvation, and the prevention of hunger and famine in situations of armed conflict.

While pretending to support de-escalation, @MarkJCarney endorses the concept of bombing a country’s nuclear facilities. Instead of standing up for international law, Canada is legitimizing Trump’s criminal acts of aggression against Iran and making this moment far more dangerous.
Iran’s nuclear programme is a grave threat to international security, and Canada has been consistently clear that Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.
While U.S. military action taken last night was designed to alleviate that threat, the situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile. Stability in the region is a priority.
Canada calls on parties to return immediately to the negotiating table and reach a diplomatic solution to end this crisis. As G7 leaders agreed in Kananaskis, the resolution of the Iranian crisis should lead to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.

The Madleen’s Gaza Freedom Flotilla is an important solidarity initiative that will help to keep the spotlight on Israel’s illegal and suffocating blockade of the occupied Gaza Strip amidst its ongoing genocide. The Gaza Freedom Flotilla must be allowed to carry out its peaceful mission safely free from intimidation or attack.
There can be no justification for blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza amidst catastrophic levels of hunger and suffering and one of the worst manmade humanitarian disasters in the world.
Israeli authorities must immediately lift their unlawful blockade on Gaza, allow and resume the unhindered flow of humanitarian assistance and lifesaving supplies, and #StopTheGenocide.
