I've talked about this many times but this is the scene Carpenter edited out of the cut he sent the MPAA for an R but immediately put back in for the theatrical release. The audience almost always recognizes an X moment lol

AIPAC just changed their name to the United Democracy Project (UDP), thinking we wouldn’t notice…
They pulled any continued funding under their prior PAC, in an attempt to disassociate from the hate they receive regularly, and throw us off their track.
You cannot hide.

On this day in 1976, John Carpenter gave moviegoers one of the biggest WTF moments in cinema.

JOHN CARPENTER COMMENTARY: Right there, blammo. What a dumb cheap trick. Ripped it off from a Howard Hawks picture. God, this is a piece of shit.
WILLIAM FRIEDKIN COMMENTARY: That was take 57. After this scene I put a gun in Gene Hackman’s mouth for fun.

Google announcing that schools banning AI will also lose access to Google Search is a pretty good opportunity to teach the next generation that Google isn’t the internet and that there are plenty of alternatives to its platforms. Maybe it’s time schools started exploring them.

The one thing I hope to see more in film labor organizing is the rebuttal against this propaganda - the selling of an American Dream based off the exploitation of work (Obsession also union-busted their production).
26 years old. A YouTuber who wrote a horror script at his coffee shop job.
He shot it for $750,000. It made $522 million.
Then he reportedly turned down $2 million to change the ending.
Curry Barker started out making horror shorts for YouTube. His first feature, he put online for free.
His second, Obsession, sold at the Toronto film festival for $16.2 million. A24, Neon and Netflix wanted it too.
It became the highest-grossing movie ever made for under $1 million. This Halloween, its main character was one of the most-searched costumes in America. Now A24 has him directing a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
What he says got him there:
1. Make the idea that won't leave you alone. "I have ideas all the time and I write them in my notes. But when you have an idea that you just can't stop thinking about, that's when you should make it."
2. Read the comments. "YouTube taught me through the comments that people are really smart."
3. Keep it small. His budget: "seven hundred and fifty thousand, max."
4. Don't sell the part that makes it yours. He reportedly passed on $2 million to make the villain a hero.
In the video below, he explains the idea behind the movie. Listen for what he says you have to earn.
Try this: pick the one idea you keep coming back to, and put a rough version in front of people this month.
Here's the lesson. You don't need permission anymore. You need proof people want it.
Would you have taken the $2 million?
I post one money story like this every day.

There is a reason ships had to enforce “women and children first”, men would literally trample their own wives and children to get to the lifeboats. The only reason more women than men survived the Titanic was because the crew held the men back with guns...

They've done such a good job rehabilitating him as the "I love da movies" guy that I kinda forgot how nuts he is
In June 2005, Matt Lauer jokingly told Katie Holmes to close her ears so Tom Cruise could talk about her. Ten minutes later, Cruise went after Lauer so hard it became one of the most infamous interviews in TV history.
A month earlier, he’d jumped on Oprah’s couch over her. A week earlier, he’d proposed at the top of the Eiffel Tower. He was 42, she was 26. He’d also just attacked Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants after giving birth.
In the video below, Cruise is beaming. Katie is “magnificent.” “You meet someone and… I can’t even describe it.”
Then Lauer brings up Brooke Shields.
“Matt, you’re glib. You don’t even know what Ritalin is.”
Psychiatry is a pseudoscience, Cruise says. There’s no such thing as a chemical imbalance.
They married in an Italian castle in November 2006. She filed for divorce in June 2012, and they settled in 11 days. Cruise later apologized to Brooke Shields in person. NBC fired Lauer in 2017.
So who lost this interview: the man who lost his temper, or the man who lost his job?
