EXCL: Colossal failures admitted by the head of the Crown Prosecution Service, in relation to prolific sex attacker and double murderer Simon Levy. Sitting down with me for @LBC, Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Parkinson admits: - Prosecution did not tell Magistrates Court that Levy was under investigation for rape or murder, despite knowing he was, when asking twice for him to be remanded in May and June 2025. - Blames Saturday court on both occasions being very busy, saying prosecutor didn't look at all the details they had. - Met Police did not ask for early charging advice as part of their probe into Levy's first murder, when they released him under investigation. - "The case actually stayed at borough level. It didn't go to the homicide unit in the Met," he claimed. - Accepts the "system is in crisis" but says failures over Levy can't be put down to that. "This is a very, very rare instance". - On Mark Rowley's comments yesterday about too much pressure being put on police by more offenders not being remanded, the DPP hits back: "I don't think the public want to hear different parts of the system taking shots at each other." - CPS now providing more support for prosecutors working Saturday courts, refreshing training on risk management and patterns of offending, empowering prosecutors to ask for adjournments and carrying out a national review into what lessons need to be learned.
