Developer: "There is no guidance or legislation which sets out that Permitted Development rights cannot be used in areas of irreplaceable habitats". @SteveReedMP @EmmaforWycombe @TonyJuniper how absolutely ridiculous! Please can this be addressed as a matter of acute urgency!

This is relevant to anyone who:
- thinks their electricity bill is too high;
- values our landscapes, heritage and nature;
- thinks that our grid upgrade should be for public benefit, not National Gridβs shareholders
TOMORROW 2nd Nov: Webinar at 6pm with @nickrosen2
We welcome Nick Rosen, energy campaigner, to talk with us about upgrading the existing grid, offshore coordination, HVDC undergrounding, cable ploughing, local community generation.
Teams link to follow in comments.
We've written to Planning Committee asking them to consider a compromise solution which would see the western section of the Carrington Relief Road moving forward at pace, with the eastern section being subject to a detailed review, to assess & minimise harms
You will find the detailed email on our website here (along with previous emails we have sent to Trafford and the Planning Committee

We are with you @mitchellsnik-this government is committing ecocide, there is nothing sustainable about such wanton destruction-it & other similarly harmful developments (like Trafford's plan to completely destroy a 335 ha peatmoss) are a betrayal of current & future generations
Heartbroken. After 4 years of campaigning to protect our beautiful coastline and countryside, the government has given the Sea Link project the green light.
Devastated for our local environment and habitats, but so proud of our community's fight.

βThe measures .. will remove councillorsβ powers to demand planning applications are referred to committees for scrutiny. Instead officials will.. decide on most smaller developments.β Councillors revolt against law stripping them of planning powers

What a MESS!!
Seem that former Housing /LG Secretary, @SteveReedMP's original heavy pushing of local government reorganisation was extremely misguided...
I wonder what ELSE he got equally, expensively, wrongπ€

The period the disruption caused by the building of the A66 has gone up from 5yrs to 9yrs. So much for Project Speed!
This is very dishonest, as the cost of the chaos will have been underestimated when justifying the scheme! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwm2β¦

So here is Guildford, shows the Green Belt as was... and now what is considered 'grey belt'.
Trust us, it's not all derelict petrol stations.
The government released its Green Belt statistics for the year, which showed an ongoing slight decline...
BUT this is a complete fallacy, as all the so-called 'grey belt' sites (thousands and thousands of acres) are still being counted as Green Belt - even though permissions are being granted!
This is truly misleading @mtpennycook @AngelaRayner @mhclg

π€¨ This is extraordinary.
Government says food shortages are a national security risk, creates a national food resilience war room and tells households to stockpile.
Then the Environment Secretary @angelaeagle says there will be no major central government intervention in food strategy.
Food security cannot be national in a crisis and local the rest of the time.
Britain π¬π§ needs a national food strategy bc feeding Britain is a national responsibility.

Plus on the one hand, doesn't want to get involved in a food strategy.
But on the other, delighted to step in and pledge cash to contribute towards a land purchase.

This is not land use planning any more: it is central government appropriating land on behalf of private sector house builders. @RosieP4 @RolandBasilides @HereforHereford @TransportActio2 @peteraf1 @RegenerationEX @stillawake @Victoria_Spratt @mead_olly @FriendsMoss @NewCor18146
Excellent piece by @FriendsMoss at @TransportActio2 webinar, exposes Gov new planning policy rating large house building applications "significant" enough to justify seizing land of irreplaceable environment and social value. @NickyGeeson @peteraf1 @greenarteries @DanicaPriest

We we want from the Budget: Move away from expensive road expansion where the case is weak, and work towards creating a transport system that provides real alternatives to driving, maintains existing infrastructure, and meets our legal climate obligations transportactionnetwork.org.uβ¦
Just a reminder that it is our online public meeting this evening. We'll be discussing the CRR, other planning applications in the area, & fundraising for legal & professional fees.

We hope the Budget tomorrow will mark a shift away from expensive road expansion where the case is weak, towards a transport system that offers better value for taxpayers, more choice for communities and a more sustainable future.

It wasn't the councillors who blocked the application.
Material planning objections were lodged by the council's own highways and ecology departments, and the national highways authority.
Traffic was the critical issue, not the poor bats, who always seem to get the blame.
