Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified.
The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far.
Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete.
As an immediate precaution, Binance has:
- temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed;
- revoked the affected address authorisation;
- engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds.
Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice.

VALIDATORS: What is it?
Validators are the ones who make sure every trade on BackX is settled on time. Anyone can be one: a person, a bot or an AI agent. There is no sign-up and no permission needed. A validator watches the open positions. When one reaches its limit, the validator settles it on-chain. That can be a liquidation, a take-profit, a stop-loss, a short hitting its roof or a limit order that should open.
Every settlement pays the validator, in USDC. Each position sets aside a fixed $0.50 when it opens, and that always goes to whoever settles it, however late. On top comes an accuracy bonus. It is largest when the validator acts right and fast.
Example: Anna has a $1,000 Long on ETH, and ETH falls to her liquidation price. A validator spots it and settles it within a second. The issuers get their USDC back in full, and the validator earns $0.50 plus a $5.00 accuracy bonus, $5.50 in total. If it had come late, it would still have earned $1.50. Leaving a position unsettled never pays, so someone always picks it up.
The fastest and most accurate validators earn the most, and that is exactly what keeps issuers safe.
