Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal have gone “backwards.” After Arsenal beat Man City 5-1 in Feb, they were 9 points ahead of City and 5 points behind Liverpool. After this weekend, City can draw level on points and Liverpool could be 18 ahead. Some drop off. mirror.co.uk/sport/football/…

Premier League statement on the regulator 👇 Refers to ‘rigid banking style regulation’. This is from an organisation that has rigid PSR rules that have not changed the £105m loss limit since 2013. Refers to ‘untested powers to intervene in the distribution of Premier League revenues’, yet ignores that there has been no deal put to the EFL since the legislation was first suggested three prime ministers ago. Claims that regulator could have a negative impact on the League’s continued competitiveness. Clearly the PL has not looked at the competitive list of trophy winners and cup finalists in the last decade. Claims the regulator could have a negative impact on ‘the aspiration that drives our global appeal and growth’. Utter hogwash, talk to fans outside the Big Six and you realise that it’s a case of survival or hoping for the lottery win of a multibillionaire owner coming in to transform the club…in an environment where a small group of owners have done all they can to ensure the ‘Big Six’ don’t become a Big Seven or Eight.

“England’s energy levels drop”. Headline in official technical report of #EURO2024 final by @UEFA technical observers, inc Moyes, Solskjaer, Capello, Benitez. Concluded that “#ENG had not used the ball well enough” in the loss to #ESP. Moyes: "England couldn’t get on the ball as well as Spain and couldn’t find a way to build better." Panel: "This inability to keep hold of the ball was another reason why their pressing became less effective as the 2nd half progressed (ultimately taking a physical toll too).” Spain beat England press only 5x 1st half, 11x 2nd (from 31 and 30 occasions respectively). Spain 3 chances before h-t, 11 in 2nd half, inc 5 of their 6 shots on goal. “As for England, their 73rd-minute equaliser by substitute Cole Palmer was only their second shot on goal of the final. It fitted a pattern of big moments from individual players during their run through the tournament. Unlike in previous matches, though, it would not be enough.” Tech panel said England’s "key features" in tournament were: “Influential gk Pickford made key saves; solid c-b pairing of Stones and Guehi; compact defensively with impressive resilience; Saka’s 1v1 ability and creativity from right; influence of Foden between the lines v #NED; impact of subs with goals from Watkins, Palmer; moments of individual brilliance from key players, e.g. Bellingham goal v Slovakia”. Bellingham’s overhead voted second-best goal of tournament after Lamine Yamal 25-yarder v France. Watkins v Dutch voted 8th best. Technical panel included Walker in Team of the Tournament because he was “strong in duels both aerially and on the ground”. Panel praised the “impressive advances made under Gareth Southgate’s reign” and noted the level of support, “typically with England, the Olympiastadion was awash with flags of St George”.

Incredible TV viewing figures from the Euros final. ITV and BBC share the final. A total of 24.2m tuned in at the peak. ITV boasted a 35pc share of TV audience which is 12pc higher than the last Euros. Huge increase.

The Tories pretending to throw in the towel is but the latest attempt at voter suppression. They can’t fight on their record or their leaders or their plans. All they have left is this supermajority nonsense. They want you to think it is all over already so you don’t need to vote. You do. No vote = no change. Take joy in voting out the worst government in history. Be part of something seismic.
