Desert Wheatear at St Agnes Head, Cornwall today. A male for sure and possibly a first calendar year bird. So photogenic and a pleasing bird for the few birders present to see. Often flew towards us giving close views.

Pallas' Warbler yesterday late afternoon in the fading light at Portland. A tricky bird to capture a half decent image being constantly on the move and obscured by foliage etc.

Slender-billed Nutcracker on a wet Saturday afternoon at Mundesley, Norfolk.
It was great to see after it went missing for a good few hours. And it was funny watching birders returning and running after they just left thinking they dipped it.

American (Buff -bellied) Pipit this afternoon 20th October at Clifford Hill gravel pits, Northants.
Poor light in the rain made it difficult to see the bird which was well camouflaged.
Thanks to other birders for putting me on to it.

A lifer for me!
The Sora didn't show at Porth Hellick all that afternoon unfortunately but saw a couple of Jack Snipe.
Buff-breasted Sandpiper at Davidstow Airfield just after the fog lifted this morning. To start with there were only two and half an hour later a third one appeared.

Found eight or nine Stone Curlew tucked away in the scant bushes on the vast white sand plains of Pájara down the southern end of Fuerteventura. Literally about five meters from our car on the track. They froze and after a few shots we quietly moved on.

The scarcer degener race of African Blue Tit on Fuerteventura. More intense indigo-blue on the back and crown than Eurasian Blue Tit without green tones and with a narrower pale eyestripe.
Picture taken in Betancuria 20th September.

Trumpeter Finch at Molinos Reservoir, Fuerteventura on 20th September.
Went to the reservoir a few times during the week's holiday and always saw a flock there.

Spectacled Warbler, Tindaya, Fuerteventura 20th September. Quite common and seen every day in various places.

Black-Bellied Sandgrouse near Molinos Reservoir, Fuerteventura on 21st September.
It was on the 6th day of our week there before we eventually found a group of three.

Houbara Bustard 16th September on Tindaya Plain. Again driving on the tracks at walking pace and looking everywhere was key. We managed to spot nine individuals in Tindaya, Molinos and the Plains of La Pared during the week's holiday.

Cream - coloured Courser, Tindaya Plain, Fuerteventura. 15th September.
We spent a week on the island and managed to find several on three different sites.
Photo taken from inside the car and is by far the best way to find them.

Returned to Eastleach Martin to see the Long-tailed Shrike again after seeing it a while back. Looking good now after the moult and more at ease with birders. How much longer will it be before it moves on?
Greater Short-toed Lark just after dawn on 19th May 2026 at the Race Track, Lesvos. Already a bit of heat haze that early in the day!
Little Crake, Metochi, Lesvos 18.05.2026
This individual was elusive and the only one we saw over the ten days we were there. I know if we went a month earlier we are likely to have seen a few more.
Little Bittern at Metochi Lake, Lesvos. There were at least five present at the time we visited.
