Around half a million men from the Punjab served in First World War. Until now, their records remained largely unread. Today, @dr_irfan_malik tells me about finding his family in the digitised records, and @GavinRand explains the archive's importance: 🎙 podfollow.com/the-world-wars…

If you only read one thing today (and even if you’re not a football fan), read this. As @CJohnstonNI remarked, this could be the best bit of sports writing I’ve ever read. Brilliant.

I see from your profile that you claim to be a historian of "colonialism & violence", which doesn't say a lot about your openness to real discussion. No point in pursuing this further. Good night.
Replying to @GoodwinMJ
Not so long ago we'd have seen similar figures for "stop selling racist dolls as children's toys", "repeal section 28" & "support gay pride". I'm unclear what any of this proves. As for "Wokeism": it's a term of the playground, not of political science, and probably best avoided.

To kick off #SouthAsianHeritageMonth, we would like to shine a light on Indian heroes who are not taught about in schools here in the UK - our first, for this week, is Rabindranath Tagore. Any guesses for who could be next? #UOBIndia #DecolonisingTheCurriculum

This is an incredibly disturbing and important read. Wherein US contractors and the Pentagon get involved in local Afghan politics and it appears to have led to an ill-advised raid and civilian casualties.
In Aug. 2008, the U.S. military called in an airstrike on its own security guards in Afghanistan. Dozens of children were killed. We had to sue the Pentagon for the story kept secret all this time. It begins with two warlords named Mr. White and Mr. Pink usatoday.com/in-depth/news/i…
