Both-side-ism will be the death of the media.
Everything is more extreme now, but this is an old pattern:
When politicians are winning, and newly elected, acting like you don't need the news media, and elevating your partisan friends, can be of strength. (EG Mamdani right now, Trump two years ago.)
But the honeymoon always ends. And when you're losing, it's part of the downward spiral.

Putting one of America’s most self-serving narcissists in the White House is having predictable negative consequences.
"It's sick,” Trump said, “I mean, there's something wrong with a country that can allow people to write purposely negative stories.”
A country that “allows” people to write negative stuff — or anything else that may irritate those in power — is called America. The freedom to do so is enshrined in the very First Amendment to our Constitution.

Today’s action revoking access for journalists from CNN, POLITICO, and MSNOW violates the First Amendment. The implications extend beyond these organizations: a standard used to exclude one news outlet because of its coverage could be applied to any outlet in the future. The American people, through a free and independent press, must be able to scrutinize those elected to power, regardless of whether government officials view it favorably. That’s why courts have repeatedly held that once the White House provides access to journalists, it cannot deny that access arbitrarily or based on the content of their reporting. The WHCA calls on the administration to immediately restore our colleagues' access.

A few thoughts this morning on the situation at the White House.
I'm sure plenty of people don't see the big deal in denying a few outlets access to the grounds. But it is a big deal.
* Press freedom is a bedrock principle.
* Less journalism = more opportunities for corruption.
* Banning reporters has a chilling effect for those reporters not banned
* There is nothing to indicate Trump will stop with these three.
* Less appreciated: adversarial press helps presidents. We should welcome checks and transparency. It's good governance.
I'm disheartened by the absence of real meaningful public pushback as these outlets have their credentials pulled this morning.
There should be collective action. The WHCA should be explaining more openly what they're doing. After all, this is an institution founded on open publication of information
