Hoping back into the Twitter/X verse to say, I’ve been seeing a lot of discussion on here recently about GPU Compute as a commodity and numerous attempts to build a market around it. There’s not enough public data to sustainably and accurate run a deriviates/futures market just yet. Even if you try and aggregate supply from multiple neoclouds and providers. Part of the reason, based on my experience at Lambda and what I’ve seen across the cloud infrastructure space, is that GPU compute isn’t sufficiently standardized/reliable yet for the market operator to be divorced from the physical infrastructure. It’s why we’re still seeing Neoclouds still gravitate to big, private deals. The top of the market is still scoping up demand from the reliable providers that have substantial HPC architecture and operator experience to run these clusters. There’s too many investors and new players in the scene throwing their money at the problem when running physical infrastructure when experience doing so is at an all time low, especially after the past 10-15 years of engineers forgetting how to run bare metal/infra and using public cloud APIs (AWS/GCP/Azure) It’s why I joined SF Compute. There is a massive need for public data from a market operator that also reliably operates the physical infrastructure underneath. The next couple years are going to be fun.

Techno was born in Detroit, not Berlin. Ruby Justice-Thelot on how the late Juan Atkins drew inspiration from Star Trek, Alvin Toffler, and the echoes of Detroit's abandoned car factories to make music that sounded like the future: "Many people are asking the question, who invented techno? It can feel sometimes like people in Berlin did, but in fact, of course, it was invented in Detroit." "He loved space, time travel, aliens, UFOs. He was watching Star Trek, Star Wars, and read Asimov." "What is so special about techno music is that it takes Toffler’s idea of techno rebels. Those people who wield technology for their own creative empowerment." "You could still hear the echoes of the now closed automotive factories. It is in those echoes that techno was born." @being_on_line

I don’t recommend this approach. Many of the elite engineers I’ve ever met put everything into their daily work cuz they on purpose chose a role/company/challenge they are truly passionate about & put a lot of extra effort into the company This is a lazy way to judge autonomy.
From a startup founder: “it’s now a red flag for me if I don’t see side projects on someone’s resume / application, because it signals lack of autonomy. Because it’s now so trivial to build anything on the side, vs before.”

best people to work with are: - extremely proactive - low ego / eager for feedback - high ownership / agency - say "we" instead of "me" - also fun

In a weird way, everybody is rooting for you. When you go to a job interview, the interviewer wants you to be amazing so they don’t have to look anymore. when you go on a date, the person wants to have an amazing date with you. If you make a piece of content, people want to see amazing pieces of content and they have no problem if it’s yours. the instant you get into the mindset that people want you to do well, your entire world gets better. And you’ll be shocked to know this pattern keeps repeating in different areas of life.
Hit me with the harshest reality truth.

Writing this in my personal capacity, but I have been flying these types of aircraft for more than 20 years, with over 8,000 hours, and have reasonable familiarity with how the charter world operates. I feel compelled to post after seeing commentary about the Lear 60 crash, from missile strikes to DEI to critiquing this poor woman’s final radio calls. That last part is what I find most troubling. She was the second-in-command (SIC), and while she was empowered to point out mistakes as part of good crew resource management, she was doing her job, communicating with ATC right to the end in a terrifying situation. She likely knew before many of those calls that she was going to die. I have heard final calls from friends, from military pilots with thousands of hours in fighter aircraft, and they are just as heartbreaking because they know the end is approaching. I understand the public interest given the footage and audio. But you do not know the aircraft’s maintenance history, whether there was a structural failure, if any failure was induced by turbulence, overspeed, or overcontrol, or everything happening in that cockpit. I am sure weather will be part of the investigation, but beyond that, it is speculation. The charter industry routinely hires commercial pilots very early in their careers to gain experience alongside an ATP-qualified captain before they move up to the airlines. She would still have the appropriate training, qualifications, and checkouts by an FAA examiner or designee. Let people investigate, learn, and share the facts. Be respectful to those who perished and the families who carry their memories. God bless them and their loved ones.

There’s nothing “gutsy” about endorsing someone you told everyone you were working to defeat up to just a day ago. Nothing about either candidate has changed. El-Sayed is not worse—and Rogers is not better—than a week ago, a month ago, or a year ago. It’s either a long con, an intemperate decision, or a disconnect from reality.
Haley Stevens made the gutsiest move I’ve seen in my political life today. Nothing but respect.

I’ve been saying this all week, but Haley Stevens’ sudden break with the Democratic party over the Senate race after playing the loyal soldier for weeks only makes sense if she had just assumed AES would lose and is having a violent crashout over the idea of him actually winning.

This is extremely important, and it's something I really loved about working at @digitalocean a decade ago. I got to know NYC very well because I visited the NYC HQ probably 15–20 times back then. The friendships from that era still continue. I think every remote company should enable people to travel and get together. Every 3–6 months is the sweet spot for me.
Unlimited budget to visit a co-worker at turbopuffer.
