As #COP17Armenia comes to a close in Yerevan, one message stands out. The challenge is no longer one of ambition. It is one of delivery. Whether we close that gap now comes down to choice and speed: the will to act, and how fast we do it. #Biodiversity #NatureForAll #COP17

“When the fever goes down, it does not mean the child is fully okay,” says Sarah Nankya, a mother from Mukono District in Uganda. Her experience reflects what researchers like Dr. Paul Bangirana of Makerere University (@Makerere) have documented for more than two decades: while surviving #malaria is critical, the long-term impacts of severe malaria can be significant. Our latest media feature explores why understanding malaria's wider impact is essential to strengthening prevention efforts and advancing progress towards elimination. Virtually every assessed shallow-water coral reef ecosystem is threatened, with 96% Critically Endangered. Heat stress from climate change is the single most consistent threat, but reefs in most parts of the world are not yet lost. #CoralReefs #COP17Armenia

Island restoration can benefit both land and marine ecosystems. Restoring nutrient flows between land and sea, conservation approaches including the control of #invasivespecies can support biodiversity, fisheries, coral reefs and ecosystem health. ➡️genedrivenetwork.org/blog/wo… #COP17Armenia #BiodiversityAction #TakingActionForNature 📷: Timo Sullivan / @IslandConserv

From the Red Sea to the Great Barrier Reef, nearly all assessed shallow-water coral reef ecosystems face an extremely high risk of collapse within 50 years. Collapse means hard corals almost disappear and algae, rubble and sponges take over. #CoralReefs #COP17Armenia

3 species, one bigger message 🐝 Armenia is home to many rare and threatened species. Today, we are singling out 3 that remind us why science, conservation action and global cooperation matter. As governments gather in Yerevan for @UNBiodiversity #COP17Armenia, their focus is on turning global commitments into results for species and ecosystems, as well as people. This is where the @IUCNRedList plays an important role. It helps identify which species are most at risk, where action is most urgently needed, and how conservation efforts can support implementation of the #GBF. Today, we choose 3 species globally assessed as threatened that live in Armenia: 🐝 Armenian bumblebee, as a reminder that pollinators are essential to healthy ecosystems; 🐆 Caucasian leopard, symbolising the importance of connected habitats, prey recovery and long-term protection; and 🦆 White-headed duck, a waterbird that highlights the need to conserve wetlands and freshwater ecosystems. Let us jointly take action #ForNature 🙌 #SpeciesConservation #Target4 #UniteForNature @COP17_Arm2026 #BiodiversityAction | @IUCNssc @FPWC_news
