Our team based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, joined researchers, policymakers and practitioners at the PAMCA Kenya Annual Meeting 2026 in Nairobi under the theme "Reconnect and Reimagine Mosquito Control in Africa." Over three days, participants discussed challenges and innovations in #malaria and vector control, including surveillance, insecticide resistance and community engagement. Target Malaria Uganda contributed through presentations and abstracts on insectary research and science communication, sharing insights and learning from colleagues across the continent. This meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen partnerships, exchange ideas and support African-led solutions for malaria control. Together, collaboration, innovation and evidence can help advance the tools and approaches needed to eliminate malaria in Africa. #PAMCA2026 #EndMalaria #VectorControl #MosquitoControl @UVRIug

🧬 New research published in PLOS Biology, tackles a critical question in gene drive development: how do we predict and overcome resistance? The study found that while a single-target gene drive performs well in the lab, resistance becomes more likely at larger population sizes. The solution: multiplexed gene drives targeting multiple sites at once, making resistance far harder to evolve. An important step toward building more robust tools in the fight against #malaria.
