Grateful to speakers at the #gaconf22 who are willing to give up their time to speak to young people (online/in person). My school runs free public lectures for KS3/4 students & wider community, organised by the excellent @Miss__Angell. Please get in touch if you can run a talk.
After years of learning and lurking, I decided to be a bit braver and run a talk at the Geographical Association Conference. It's about our KS3 curriculum which aims to tell the story of us and our planet - looking back 4.5 billion years and ahead into the Anthropocene. #GAConf22
Great talk from an inspiring @christopherpyle about climate change... featuring the death of the Ok glacier in Iceland ("It's not OK!"), how disciplinary knowledge about cold environments has changed, student agency, and leaving a legacy that empowers students to act.π #gaconf21

Replying to @lcgeography
@lcgeography has to be one of the kings of GIS. Amazing YouTube channel as well - full of GIS explainers. Looking forward to watching some of these and have already recommended them to our PGCE student! #gaconf21 youtube.com/channel/UCfFiyu7β¦
Really interesting session at the #GAConf21 with @Jeremy_Williams. Took some time to explore The Earthbound report website. Useful resources, including this further reading & podcast page on climate & race. earthbound.report/ccir/climaβ¦. #geographyteacher @geoliteracy
All set for the Geographical Association conference on the big screen (well, the TV). Looking forward to spending the next couple of days learning about some great Geography. #gaconf21
Just watched an interesting talk about building thinking power by @ClareSealy. Plenty of geography here with advice about curriculum design and exploring sophisticated geographical schemas. Well worth a watch. #geographyteacher youtube.com/watch?v=E9LBpz4Wβ¦
BRILLIANT online conference with many a #geographyteacher (over 900?!). THANK YOU to the inspiring speakers @EnserMark @kate_stockings @m_chiles @ploguey @pjshortland @geoteachrach @mrsutheran @MrTooze @GeographiaUK and to the wonderful @FlaviaBelhamPhD for hosting. #senecacpd
Looks interesting - 2pm today. π»Webinar with Prof. Danny Dorling 'The End of the Great Acceleration β and Why it's Good for the Planet, the Economy, and Our Lives'. More info on the link. #geographyteacher eventbrite.co.uk/e/research-β¦
If any #geographyteacher is reading this with a spare hour or so later, 'The Futures We Choose' talk at the @hayfestival at 5.30pm looks excellent. Also 'The Next Fifty Things that Made the Modern Economy' at 4pm. Thanks @kate_stockings and @RobGeog for recommending @hayfestival!
Massive thanks to @The_GA, @davidErogers and everyone who contributed to the GA conference. I should have been in the Azores for the first time with 40 Year 10 & 11s. INSTEAD very grateful for an excellent #GAeConf20 and an inspiring TeachMeet. ππ
Watching the TeachMeet from @the_GA conference. Love this from @MallorcaGeog. Using Playmobil characters to demonstrate the challenges of leading fieldwork. Can see this working with students to help create risk assessments. #GAeConf20
A pleasure to hear @MaryMyatt for the first time. Key takeaways from 'Curriculum Conversations' at #rEDDurringtonLoom: we are a challenge seeking species, students appreciate demanding work in the right conditions with low threat, and stories help us remember complex ideas.

A cracking contribution from @ClareSealy using the Fibonacci clock. A really elegant walk through
#rEDDurringtonLoom
Great point from @stoneman_claire about curricular thinking and the real danger of being attracted to 'surface features' e.g. knowledge organisers, without wrestling with the depth of curriculum development first. #rEDDurringtonLoom

Just watched a really great talk from the amazing Dylan Wiliam about 'Teacher Quality'. Biggest take away is that high quality teachers continue to benefit learners for three years after they have taught them, very thought provoking! Thank you @dylanwiliam #rEDDurringtonLoom
Excellent presentation from @dylanwiliam at #rEDDurringtonLoom about how hard it is to judge teacher quality. Focus not on competency but on teacher improvement. Encourage staff to believe they can get better so that they're asking, "What else can I try?" if things go wrong. π
