GEORGE is a #HorizonEurope funded project that brings together 28 European partners to advance autonomous #ocean observations. Together, we improve #biogeochemical ocean observations for better science and decision-making. 🌊
Find out more in the video below.
Have you checked out the GEORGE online training platform yet? The platform is intended for anyone working with ocean carbon observations, with materials produced collaboratively by the entire GEORGE team.

#EMSO and @Ifremer_fr represented GEORGE at #SeaTechWeek, in Brest, France, this week. The team presented GEORGE progress, including results from 2025 & 2026 demo missions, and connected with potential collaborators. Thank you to those who stopped by! 👋
📣 The GEORGE project has launched a brand new online training platform for autonomous marine observing technologies. The training is open for all, but will serve especially marine RI professionals working with autonomous observing technologies. 💻

It's been a busy #ICOS2026SC week in Lund, Sweden, so far! 🙌 GEORGE partners are here presenting new research, including
🚢 results from field trials
⚙️ new sensor integrations on #Argo floats & #gliders🤝 🤝assessments of multi-RI cooperation of ICOS, Euro-Argo and EMSO
ICOS Science Conference is underway in Lund, Sweden featuring presentations from the GEORGE consortium ⤵️
Witold Tatkiewicz from @UniofExeter presented CAPASOS – a compact, low-power instrument designed to measure pCO₂ on Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs).

The 2nd large demo mission of the GEORGE project took place in northwestern Mediterranean this July. The mission tested and validated GEORGE technologies for autonomous, multi-platform #ocean carbon observations.
Watch Chief Scientist Laurent Coppola reflect on the mission👇
GEORGE will convene a dedicated session at next week's ICOS Science Conference, taking place 15–17 Sept 2026 in Lund, Sweden and online. Read more & register: ow.ly/kW2050ZKAof
Did you know that a small device, about the size of a small cupboard, can be placed on ships to measure pCO2 in the surface ocean? 🚢 Watch a video of the General Oceanics (GO) system, developed in GEORGE by @GEOMAR_en & @ICOS_RI.

That’s a wrap on the #MOOSE2026 & GEORGE cruise! R/V Gaia Blu arrived in La Seyne-sur-Mer, France, yesterday, bringing this year’s expedition, and the ship-based phase of the GEORGE demo mission in the northwestern Mediterranean, to a close 🎉 (1/3)

The mission tested GEORGE technologies for autonomous, multiplatform ocean carbon observations. On board, the General Oceanics (GO) system measured surface-ocean pCO₂, while the FerryBox collected additional measurements, including pH and oxygen. (2/3)

The ship-based observations will be compared with data from #Sailbuoy, #Argo floats & #SeaExplorer gliders. The datasets will support the calibration and validation of GEORGE’s pH and pCO2 sensors. Thank you to all the scientists and crew involved! (3/3)

Update from the GEORGE demo mission in the NW Mediterranean & #MOOSE2026 cruise 🚢 Second #Argo float of the mission was deployed for long-term autonomous measurements near Lion. Following tradition, the float on Friday was signed by crew members before being sent on its way ✍️
Day 4 of the #MOOSE2026 cruise in NW Med Sea. On R/V Gaia Blu, General Oceanics (GO) system is measuring CO₂ in the surface ocean & atmosphere. Tonight, the ship is expected to meet #Sailbuoy, carrying #CaPASOS, so data from both platforms can be compared. 📸 Christian Clauwers
