Kevin Bonavia, Stevenage’s Labour MP, wants “prompt and effective action.” Not against the Pakistani rape gangs. Not for the homeless. Not against the Small boat invasion. He wants the St George’s Cross and the Union Jack taken down. He says the people who put them up “knew the rules, and chose to ignore them. That’s not right, and it’s not the way we do things in this country.” The same political class especially on the left spent years looking the other way while organised Pakistani grooming gangs destroyed thousands of girls’ lives. Rules and evidence suddenly didn’t matter then. Now a few English and British flags on lampposts is treated like a crisis. Patriotism is not a dirty word. Our flags should be flown proudly the way almost every other country flies its own. Yet so many on the left act ashamed of them. They were taught that the St George’s Cross is “far-right,” that the Union Jack is divisive, and that ordinary pride in this country is something to police. So when people start flying them again, the instinct is to demand they come down not to ask why so many feel the need to put them up in the first place. The flags aren’t the problem. MPs who treat them as one are.
