OnlyFans went down today and so did we, it wasn't on accident. What caused all the downtime and should you be worried as a creator?
Two critical bugs were identified in PHP (the programming language behind around 70% of all websites, not just adult ones) which would allow cyber attacker to remotely access websites.
A fix has been released which is what caused site maintenance across the industry today. Your preferred website being down is a good thing, it means they were fixing the dangerous code.
The biggest danger to creators is that attackers and hackers WILL be looking for websites that did not patch. Over the next few weeks, it's very likely we'll see many websites hacked.
Depending on where a website stores your legal information like your legal name, email, address, and payment details, your data could be at risk if your preferred websites don't make this fix. Most of the legitimate websites have already started patching or completed their patch but there is a chance a website you utilize hasn't done the patch yet.
A quick to-do to keep yourself safe as cyber attacks start:
-Confirm with websites that have your data if they have deployed this fix or are impacted by PHP (Not all sites run on PHP)
-Run upgrades on all devices like ios, browsers and tools you use
-Run a breach scanning tool to look for your personal information BranditScan.com has one
-Change your passwords and don't use the same passwords on every website
-Turn on 2fa everywhere that you can
-Ignore any emails telling you to install things or verify your account if you can't confirm it's legitimate

🚨 Heads up, several adult sites are having problems right now. It’s not just you.
Two different things are showing up. OnlyFans and SextPanther are showing planned maintenance screens (intentional downtime). Other sites are throwing CloudFront errors, that’s Amazon’s CDN, so there could also be an AWS-side issue hitting some platforms at the same time. Whether the two are connected isn’t confirmed.
There’s also a separate security story going around this month about compromised certificates used to impersonate big sites (Ars Technica, Oct 20). No platform has linked it to today, so treat that as unconfirmed too.
Nothing to do but wait. While sites are flaky, don’t re-enter your login anywhere that looks off, and ignore any DM or email claiming to “restore” or “verify” your access. Outages are prime time for phishing.

Onlyfans girls are a demographic that is (by necessity and nature of the job) highly visible online and almost exclusively left leaning. This is how you silence a whole chunk of political dissent
Starting November 1, OnlyFans can freeze your earnings if they think something you did could hurt OnlyFans' reputation.
That's one of two new suspension triggers in the updated terms. This is part 2 of my TOS breakdown, and it's all about your account and your money.
The new suspension triggers...
Section 14.b lists when OF can suspend your account and hold your earnings without notice while they review.
Two new reasons were added.
The first is any action OF thinks "has caused or is reasonably likely to cause" a loss to OnlyFans or its users, or harm to the reputation of OnlyFans or any user.
The second is not promptly giving OF information they ask for.
That second one is going to be hard for a lot of us. Basically if OF emails you asking for documents, answer fast. Idk about you but I'm allergic to checking my emails so this is about to get annoying.
Also disputes now need to be in writing...
If OF suspends you, deletes content or forfeits earnings, you still have six months to dispute it. The new terms add that the dispute has to be "in writing" (14.d). Keep copies of everything you send.
One notice promise is gone. The 2024 terms said that when OF suspends or deletes content or accounts, "we will try to notify you." That line was removed. OF still promises a statement of reasons after a review decision (14.c).
Now the money...
Payouts that need a currency conversion now "include currency conversion fees to cover processing costs and exchange rates" (10.e). The 2024 version only warned that your own bank might charge you. If you're paid outside USD, compare your next few payouts after November 1.
OF can now add "any Tax, fee or other amount" to a fan's payment without further notice to comply with the law or payment network rules (9.f). That means fans could see a higher total at checkout than our listed price.
OF can now send your earnings to a third party entitled to them by law or court order (14.e). It can also check that your bank details match your ID verification (10.a).
One change that helps us...
If a fan's card declines, OF can now retry it multiple times before the renewal fails (9.i). That should mean fewer subscriptions lost to one declined payment.
Obviously this is my read of the new terms, and (again!) I'm not a lawyer. Read them yourself and tell me if you see it differently. Part three will be tomorrow and it's the last one about what to do before you click accept, plus the change that works in your favor.
