Freud called this the “repetition compulsion,” where you subconsciously program yourself to scan for, reenact, and recreate distressing life experiences, relationships and traumas rather than process them.
YES, you do need to talk things through to process them, but mindfulness is the key difference between processing, deconstructing and rehearsing your traumas.
After you tell the story, turn the page with“I know what happened before, but that’s not my story/situation/timeline/life/connection now…” 📓🫂
