I assume it's that Alonso wanted more of a say of not only transfers, but of "football operations" including youth development. It's higher risk, in a way, because it makes the Manager become a single point of failure.

I don’t understand this kind of thing. The coach v manager thing. What does a manager get to do that a coach doesn’t ? They both have a say on transfers. Neither ever dictates the whole process in modern DOF set ups.
