I have an article published with The Rabbit Room in which I talk about discovering the magic of poetry, sharing that magic with my own children, and writing poetry for children and children at heart. rabbitroom.com/post/in-prais…

I'm not a fan of shopping. Unless it's thrift shopping at a place with lots of inexpensive books. Then shopping is my favorite.

You really should be reading picture books because they could help you remember things that you learned in school, like how to use apostrophes or how to deal with a meanie on the playground. #PictureBooks

One of my favorite things is when the grandkids get quiet and I find them sitting on the floor of the family room with a pile of books.

A little reminder for those who think they can't break the "rules" about writing in verse: A verse novel can be adventure fantasy mystery woes romance friendship family foes. The only thing it can’t be is prose. #VerseNovelist

Happy Birthday to my hubby who turns 54 today! One more year and he can get a senior discount, and then we'll be living the life! 😆

I have an actual illustrated book, a growing portfolio, and two picture book dummies, but I still sometimes feel like an imposter when calling myself an illustrator. Can you relate?

I have six orchids that I'm keeping alive and thriving, one of them I've had for a few years! If I can learn how to do that, then you can learn that challenging thing that you think might be impossible.

Part of growing older and wiser means realizing that you don’t have to grow up too much. If you're a children's author or illustrator, I hope you already know this!

Wooded areas, and trees in general, often have prominent places in my stories, poetry, and art. Probably because of real places (and books) in my life. How about you?

You know what's better than being on a bestseller list? Knowing your book is a kid's favorite.

I always have fun when the grandkids are over, but today was especially delightful when the two oldest (4 and 5/12) took turns telling stories inspired by The Lion and the Mouse.

I hope to put the finishing touches on a picture book dummy today. Maybe putting this wish out there will help to make it happen!
