The Government Art Collection is 125 years old today! To celebrate #GAC125 here is ‘Sir George Lloyd Hodges KCB’ (c.1840) from an anonymous 19th century British Painter. It’s one of the 15,000 works of art that the GAC has put on display in over 125 countries – including Serbia!

In my mind, @GovArtCol serves 3 purposes. For its beauty; to showcase work of british artists; and to be a talking point. Bling! Henry does all three. It is the work of Stephen Farthing, it is gloriously colourful on high white walls and ... artcollection.dcms.gov.uk/ar… – at Rome, Lazio

This week's #OnlineArtExchange @artukdotorg theme is flowers for @MK_Gallery's Vanessa Bel exhibition 🌸
We think we... rose to the occasion with John Nash's Summer Flowerpiece from the Collection that currently hangs in the UK embassy in Rome 💐
We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of artist Frank Auerbach.
Our Collection features 'Mornington Crescent' by Auerbach from 1970. Mornington Crescent was close to Auerbach's studio and was a subject that the artist returned to again and again to paint.

ALT An abstracted view of Mornington Crescent in north London, painted with thick brushstrokes. A pelican-crossing beacon frames the painting on the left, while schematically painted blue figures appear to stroll past heavy black railings. The deep red tiles of Mornington Crescent tube station can be seen on the right.
A view from the gardens of the British Embassy in Paris from c.1841 vs today! #ThenAndNow
This painting by Heinrich Johann Luttringhausen depicts the embassy as it would have appeared during Lord Granville Leveson-Gower's tenure as British Ambassador from 1835-41.

Today's #OnlineArtExchange theme is dreams for Portia Zvavahera: Zvakazarurwa at @kettlesyard 💤
🌳We've chosen this dream-like painting 'In My Head Grows a Garden', which blurs the boundaries between portrait and landscape.
