Governance Dynamics designed and delivered an information security and cyber risk awareness program to around 50 people at a major institution in the GCC financial sector. Most attacks do not break in. They log in, through a person. Participants worked through the five levers social engineering pulls: urgency, authority, fear, reward and helpfulness. When a message makes you feel one of those strongly, that feeling is the attack. In 2024 a finance employee in Hong Kong received an email from his CFO asking for a confidential transaction. He was suspicious of it, and he was right to be. Then came a video call with the CFO and several colleagues he recognized, and the suspicion went away. Every face on that call was a deepfake built from public footage. He approved fifteen transfers totaling 25.6 million dollars and only found out when he checked with head office afterwards. His instinct was correct. The video call is what overrode it. One habit survives that scenario. Verify on a second channel. A face on a screen stopped being proof of identity some time ago. Awareness training is often treated as a compliance tick. Governance Dynamics had the opportunity to design and deliver a professional certification program in internal audit for financial institutions this year, in partnership with a leading institution in the GCC. We built this program from scratch rather than adapting existing material. Six modules, a participant guide with 400+ pages, slide decks built around sector-specific case studies, and a full assessment, all mapped to Global Audit Standards and to the supervisory expectations that apply to institutions in the GCC. It was authored in Arabic, and not translated into it. That distinction shows up in the detail. Terminology stays consistent with how supervisors and audit committees in the region actually phrase things, and the case studies were written for that context from the first draft. The participants finished the program with the ability to: * Define the internal audit mandate in a financial institution and defend it to an audit committee * Evidence independence, objectivity and competence to a supervisor rather than assert them * Build a risk-based annual plan and carry it through board approval intact * Turn engagement objectives into an audit program that tests the controls that matter * Analyse full populations instead of samples, and assess the IT environment behind them * Write findings that survive challenge and drive corrective actions to closure More from this year's delivery in the coming weeks. #InternalAudit #Governance #RiskManagement #Compliance #FinancialServices

When organizations talk about customer service, they look outward: the call center, the sales floor, the account team. But that experience is shaped long before anyone reaches a customer. It’s built inside, in how your departments serve each other. Every function including Finance, HR, IT, Procurement, Security, to name a few serve internal clients. When that internal service is fast and solution-oriented, the payoff shows up everywhere: → Work moves faster: strong service in one function removes bottlenecks across many. → Employees engage: supported people are motivated; obstructed people check out, and customers feel it. → Silos give way to collaboration: departments act as one value chain, not competing territories. → Customers get a better experience: employees who get quick answers and support deliver consistently. → Culture strengthens: it is built in daily interactions, not wall statements. 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘦𝘺: internal customer satisfaction should not be left to goodwill. Make it a KPI. Measure it regularly, just like you measure the satisfaction of your external clients, and manage it with the same level of care.
