WIDENING GAP: Gov. Kathy Hochul has expanded her lead over Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman to 14 points in the New York governor's race, up from a 9-point margin in September, according to a new Siena poll.
Blakeman is failing to build the kind of margins Republicans need in traditionally competitive territory. He and Hochul are running virtually even upstate and in the downstate suburbs — regions where Republican candidates typically need dominant performances to offset Democrats' roughly two-to-one voter registration advantage and their dominance in New York City. Hochul also leads independents by 11 points.
