and so this dance returns with Malfoid: slowly softening haughty Slytherin mask leading to the finale, where she joins Harry to stand together against Voldemort. for many who grew up on Harry Potter, this hijacks the childhood nostalgia with a perfect resolution... and thus we yearn. but it takes two to dance, and most of us grew up without ever learning the basic steps - let's have the troubadours show us the way: (shockingly, there are almost no proper english translations of Colin Muset's songs, so here is a wonderful Polish performance by prof. Jacek Kowalski, "On the Fickleness of Women according to Colin Muset", youtube.com/watch?v=pLxAbrGg…, my rough translation below) "Tricked and played right for a fool, yet I sing with all my might songs of love by every rule! For your virtues and your talents, and an honour free of stain, weigh nothing in the balance. Set your heart upon a dame, and you'll end up disappointed, for she'll never prize a name when the pouch and purse goes dry and unanointed. He who means to love her true, with a heart that's pure and bold, without falsehood; must take her out to dance the night, look after and pamper her, and hold her tight, He who hopes to call her his must talk and talk without an end, spinning words into the breeze, For a woman's made of change, and shifting as the wind; Whoever first in all this world took a thought to court a maid, truly, that man was bold! For a woman's temper woes: now she laughs and now she weeps, and so it goes, and goes, and goes... From her birth she holds the art to charm a man and steal his wits, Whispering to every man, as if he were her only one, and beguiles him with this art. Every creature under heaven, aye, the monk inside his cell, and the priestly order too, bows beneath a woman's spell, while she skips like summer wind, here and there and everywhere. Let her hear the silver rattle, she comes without delay; but when the purse is drained, love takes wing and flies away, you alone remain." it seems poor Colin was living our chud life too, so many centuries ago. the Lady: a woman of high status, proper, prim... and dismissive - her regard has to be earned, so she keeps the last word on when your dance ends. this theme surprisingly did not begin as Christian chivalry - one of its earliest versions comes north from al-Andalus: Ibn Hazm's "Ring of the Dove" (~1022), which treats a lover's delay and suffering as the dance itself. troubadours carried it across europe for the next two centuries, until the bishop of Paris, Étienne Tempier, banned Andreas Capellanus's manual "De Amore" in 1277... alongside books of necromancy and sorcery as "manifestly contrary to faith and good morals, to the peril of souls." why? for christians love was aimed at marriage and a household... and "courtly love" dangerously turned the distant lady into an idol, so a man's heart kept yearning while she withheld the yes. no Lady can safely drop her guard for a man who begs for scraps, or for one who sits in the corner bitter at the world. Gawain was a knight of the Round Table, supported by brotherhood and bound by loyalty to Arthur. Though his task was hard (king asks you to marry a literal hag), he trusted his king's judgment and entered the marriage wholeheartedly. we moderns might mistake Gawain granting her "sovereignty" for medieval feminism - but if we read the following stanza of the poem, we'll find out the exact moment Gawain yields the choice to her and the curse breaks, Ragnelle immediately vows total loyalty and obedience back to him. Because a Lady needed proof he held his strength with grace before she could freely place herself in his hands, she wouldn't surrender herself to a tyrant or a weakling. the world has forgotten the dance of knights and ladies, so it's time to leave the comfort of the tavern and go learn how to lead the dance again.

so we're yearning. what's next? many even call Malfoid a "modern Romeo and Juliet"... but the dynamic we accidentally resurrected is a far older tale we forgot how to name: courtly love, fin'amor. behold a thread on courtly love and centuries of broken hearts (1/6)
I drew this to make guys yearn again. Sorry, but stop asking me to turn it into yuri or something.

WIP update :) first time using this white primer, so i’m having a little struggle with paint-to-thinner ratio. i’ll let it dry for now, any rougher patches will sand nicely and a few more layers will cover the mess up hehe keep yearning and have a blessed sunday #chibi #malfoid
