The Big Beautiful bill is effectively ending professional gambling
If this passes, pro poker players will only be able to write off 90% of their losses
You could lose money and still owe taxes
The new federal tax proposal on gamblers in the current Senate bill, often referred to as the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” introduces significant changes to how gambling winnings and losses are taxed:
Limits on Gambling Loss Deductions: The Senate version would permanently limit the deduction of gambling losses to 90% of gambling winnings. This means that both casual and professional gamblers could only deduct up to 90% of their winnings as losses, rather than the full amount as under current law1.
Professional Gamblers: For professionals, the total of losses and business expenses could not exceed 90% of gambling winnings. For example, if a professional gambler had $500,000 in winnings, $440,000 in losses, and $50,000 in business expenses, they would have to pay tax on $50,000 of income, not just the net $10,000 as previously allowed1.
Key effects:
Casual gamblers who break even over the year (equal winnings and losses) would now owe tax on 10% of their winnings.
Professional gamblers would be taxed on a minimum of 10% of their winnings, regardless of actual net profit after losses and business expenses.
Note: These provisions are in the Senate version of the bill and are not present in the House version, so they may change during the legislative process1.
Additionally, there is discussion about raising the federal excise tax on gambling wagers from 0.25% to 5%, which would significantly increase the tax burden on each bet placed, but this is presented as a policy option and not confirmed as part of the current bill2. Conversely, a separate bill has been introduced to repeal the existing 0.25% federal excise tax on sports betting, but this is unrelated to the Senate’s current proposal3.
In summary:
The new Senate bill proposes to limit gambling loss deductions to 90% of winnings, effectively ensuring that at least 10% of gambling winnings are always taxable, a significant change from current law where losses can fully offset winning

If you care about poker now is the time to get this out to every single corner of the internet.
This has been snuck into the bill and if it passes tens of thousands of people will instantly lose their careers.
We need to rally together now as the poker community.

Yikes.
Senate Amendment to the Big Beautiful Bill =
You get taxed on more than you earned from gambling, even if you netted $0 (or less!).
Here's how it works and what you can do...
The change
If it passes in this form, starting in 2026, gambling losses (and expenses) will only be 90% deductible (and still only up to your total winnings).
What this means in plain English
If you win $100k and lose $100k – You’ll owe tax on $10k of “phantom” income.
If you win $100k and lose $50k – You actually profited $50k, but you’ll owe tax on $55k.
If you win $100k and lose $150k – No tax owed (your deduction is capped at $100k, which is more than 90% of $150k ($135k)).
(Editing in from my post below because it's important:
A pro who earns $200k/year might have $3m in winnings and $2.8m in losses.
This means earning $200k and being taxed as if they earned $480k.)
This applies to both recreational and professional gamblers.
For pros, your travel, coaching, software, etc. are lumped into the “loss” bucket and still subject to the 90% cap.
What to do
Pulling from @russcfox's post:
"If you don't like this (and I don't), and if you have a GOP Congressman, let them know. (You can find your House representative at house.gov/representatives/fi…) Be respectful in your message, and, yes, they are looked at."
Thank you for breaking the news and keeping poker players posted, Russ!

Dear Poker Community,
I believe my beautiful son, Daniel, suffered from undiagnosed depression. I believe that he masked his condition and did not let anyone, not even those who loved him most, know how badly he was suffering. I believe the stress and isolation of his beloved poker job and the accompanying stresses of life exacerbated his condition. I appreciate the comments posted here because it’s clear how much you all loved him. Please be aware of your own mental health and know that while this game and lifestyle are amazing, the stress of it can put your lives at risk. Please reach out for help if you are struggling. There is no shame in that. And please don’t hesitate to reach out to anyone you suspect may be struggling. Don’t let the lessons Dan taught you on and off the felt be in vain. I love you all and pray you will take care of yourselves.
Love,
Catherine (Daniel’s Mom)

These 10am day 2 restarts @WSOP after playing day 1 from 10am-12:30am the day before are pretty brutal. This was how it was back in the day, they made the schedule better, now it feels like we went backwards.
In case WSOP will take any consideration to change this, so far I’ve been asking all my table mates and it’s been pretty unanimous that people find it a pretty rough experience.
Here is what the experience is like during these large field events.
Finish at 12:30am, parking garage is jammed up spent 12:35-12:55am trying to get out of the garage. Last year they seemed to have all the parking gates up during big events, this helped a lot rather than each car 1 by 1 inserting their parking ticket to get out.
Get home by about 1:20am, 45 minutes to get ready for bed and try to wind down.
On average most people take about 30 minutes to fall asleep once in bed, but a lot of people will take an hour especially after a long day of play.
Sleep from 3am-9am. If you have fairly efficient sleep you’ll get 6 hours, if not you’ll get 5.
Wake up and shower and pretty much have to leave right away. Not much time for breakfast. I made the mistake of making coffee for 5 minutes and spending another 10 minutes exercising so I don’t mess up my back.
Got to the horseshoe at 9:50am. Spent 20 minutes in traffic jam at garage with all players having to one by one push button receive parking ticket to open gate. Got to my seat by 10:15am blinding out.
Honestly I think most players wouldn’t mind if you just made the structure a level faster If it meant we get an extra hour in-between day 1 and day 2 restart. Or if you at least negotiated with the property to open the parking garage gates that would probably get people an extra 30 minutes of time back as well.
If you agree please share your opinion with a cite below & like / retweet to bring some awareness to @WSOP @JackEffel of how many others also feel this way.

We conducted an analysis of known hacker addresses from the @AtomicWallet hack and have identified two Ethereum addresses that appears to provide transactions fees for the hacker.
Hacker transaction fee addresses:
0xd756850352a6d4bdf3da80f3b476f887b2ac291e
0x402b8f4970115f63171c5158a8edc2a7f9ea4522
Additionally, we have closely monitored hacker activities on the Ethereum blockchain and have observed a pattern related to transaction fees:
In cases where the victim's address does not have sufficient ETH to perform transactions, these addresses provided transactions fees to facilitate the transfer of the victim's tokens to the hackers addresses. They then convert these tokens into ETH and proceed to transfer the stolen funds.
