Amtrak, at the prompting of the FRA, is proposing a major restructuring. Today, October 30, is the last day to comment on it.
Great Britain implemented similar structure in the mid-1990s. It is now in the final stage of undoing that experiment.

We are saddened by the high-speed train crash in Spain this morning (Oct. 28) that took the lives of at least 68 people. Our hearts are with the families and friends of the victims and the injured. Reports point toward a misguided signaling instruction as the primary cause.
Congress created the Corridor Identification Program, as part of the IIJA, to help create a passenger-rail project pipeline nationwide.
Now, there’s talk that the Administration may dramatically scale back or alter Corridor ID.

Amtrak and NJ Transit began transferring the second track from the old Portal Bridge to a new, fixed span over the Hackensack River on October 9.
A companion bridge, Portal South, is not yet funded. The new surface transportation bill can change that.

The S-Line, a higher-speed passenger rail project to connect Raleigh, NC and Richmond, VA, has been obligated $550 million from the Federal Railroad Administration. The money will go toward upgrading ~75 miles of abandoned, formerly CSX right of way.
