New pub! @MargotHanley and I coauthored this article on anthropomorphized artificial intelligence in @BigDataSoc. We show how engineers make technology that conveys what we call "shifting personhood" by selectively designing anthropomorphic qualities. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.…
My latest op-ed, "The Market’s Judgment on OnlyFans Has Nothing to Do With Money," was just published in @barronsonline. I argue that the stigmatization of porn and other "sin stocks" has led investors to undervalue economically profitable assets. barrons.com/articles/onlyfan…
This is a huge win for free speech and higher education. I'm proud to be a member of ASA and grateful for @AdiaHWingfield's leadership. democracyforward.org/updates…

Just published this piece in @ConversationUS with @LindseyDCameron! Based on our fieldwork in the porn and ride-hailing industries, we argue that gig platforms attract workers with the promise of autonomy, but punish those who try to exercise it. theconversation.com/unlikely…
I am delighted to see Yu-Cheng Liu's @ucsb fantastic article, "The meaning of autonomy: How artists justify career paths," published in @Poetics_Journal. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…. 1/N
Liu conducted rare interviews with two groups of Chinese artists-state, affiliated artists and independent artists, both of whom offer competing narratives of autonomy that emphasize the resources they have and downplay those that they lack vis-a-vis each other.

Definitely one of the best years of my professional life @the_IAS. Sadly, no group photos so the names will have to do. @PabloBochon @llamasjr @lnakamur @alondra @DavidNieborg @niftyc @JuliaTicona1 @moiragweigel @H_Wohl @ZahidChaudhary1 @DanielaGabor @shamuskhan @GeoffMann
I'm honored to be the incoming Chair Elect of @ASACulture and to work with Clayton Childress as the new Chair. I've greatly enjoyed being involved with the section since grad school and I'm thrilled for our exciting plans that lie ahead!
