The reason Malfoid caught on and why we yearn so much for it is precisely the opposite of hornyposting and the Bowsette trend, if you remember that.
The spark wasn't "Wow, genderbent Malfoy is an attractive, snobby, platinum blonde with green eyes." Because, to be honest, those are a dime a dozen in various media forms.
No. The reason that this movement is on fire is because we realized the magnitude of character development and potential that's available. We subconciously picture a great many literary devices that work *too well*.
We see a perfect foil. We see the inner conflict. We see a fresh take upon a classic story, this time inheriting classical, masculine romance.
We see a real bridge that requires struggle and effort to cross. One interesting thing that hasn't been discussed so far is Harry's side of things, but we already have a lot of Harry's characterization. We know him. Its Malfoid we discovered.
Adding Harem or Hornyposting to this formula just diminishes the result. Same goes for too many anime tropes if you ask me. We can borrow the tsundere aspects or class bully without going too hard on them. Moderation is key.
Its a 100% kino concept with infinite potential. Even if most of us aren't artitsts, writers or AI whisperers, we should at least do our best to keep the trend alive and show the market a constant demand for a return to form.
We want the romantasy. We want the redemption.
Give us Malfoid, or give us death.

Book 3 Ch 7 of the Malfoid rewrite is now live on Ao3. Harry and Draconia go and see some experimental brooms... and it turns out, sometimes you shouldnt stare where you intend to go.

Something that I realized earlier today is that the final Expelliarmus can also be read as a mirror to the Adam and Eve: The man and the woman, in an act of mutual communion, kill the Snake and save humanity.

The Malfoid trend is so hot that it's generated a lot of interest in the games as well.
It led to over 120k copies of Hogwarts Legacy being sold this month, partly due to the discounts, and people are requesting the mod for Zenless Zone Zero.
Other games like Fallout 4, Koikatsu, and Code Vein now have a character mod for Malfoid.
