The 10-year old me. Year 1994. War was still raging in my homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Three years into Sarajevo siege and a year prior to Srebrenica genocide. A 100,000 civilians killed.
For us... a refugee camp in Ðurđevac, Croatia, bordering Hungary. Lucky. One meal per day was a good day. Army blankets and children who grew up over night.
Something broke in me then. Not sure yet what, but it did made me who I am today. Perhaps 'unfortunately'.
However, I wish I could tell this girl in the picture that everything's going to be alright.
But not every child will be as lucky.
According to the most recent official data from the UNHCR Global Trends Report and UNICEF Data, there are approximately 19.1 million refugee and asylum-seeking children worldwide. When looking at the broader picture of total forced displacement (which includes refugees, asylum-seekers, and children displaced inside their own countries), the number rises sharply to between 45 million and 49 million children.
Never judge people. You never know where they're coming from.

THE “WORST OF THE WORST”: A NUN WITH A WORK PERMIT.
Sleep peacefully, America. ICE caught Sister Leticia Ugboaja walking to Sunday Mass.
She had a valid work permit, attended EVERY required immigration appointment and complied with EVERY condition of her court-ordered protection.
A nun. A nurse. Following the rules. Walking to church.
Thank God they got to her before she could receive Communion.
It took intervention from members of Congress to help secure her release. Apparently, a work permit and doing everything immigration officials require aren’t quite as effective as knowing someone in Congress.
So much for “do it the right way" hey MAGA????

Dear friends,
Unfortunately, the Srebrenica Memorial Center continues to be targeted by the corrupt Bosnian Serb police and judiciary.
I know for a fact that a plan is being prepared to raid the Memorial Center. I am not privy to the operational details, but I know the plan exists. I understand that it would involve special police units and Bosnian Serb TV cameras.
The operation appears to have two objectives: first, to discredit and intimidate the Memorial Center; and second, to put me in prison and subject me to years of politically motivated proceedings.
The only way we can fight back is by bringing this into the open. Transparency is our only protection - and, ultimately, our only means of survival in such an adversarial environment.
