When I ask students how they revise, “I watched a revision video” features heavily - I pair my revision videos with questions so they have to do something afterwards.
What do you ask students to actually DO when they revise with a video? Notes? Pause and attempt?
A ringing endorsement on MyResources from my #GCSE #Physics free revision stream last night!

"No job is perfect, and teaching is not the right career for everyone. But it is a wonderful profession and the endless negativity that surrounds it is both inaccurate and unhelpful." Thoughtful piece from Ben Levinson. tes.com/magazine/teaching-le…
This is a GAME CHANGER! No more shall I fear being asked to explain the difference between contamination and irradiation in a revision lesson 🙌
Here is a new resource for students to learn the difference between contamination and irradiation ☢️

#iteachphysics - at 5.40pm I am teaching a free, live A-level physics lesson on YT. Tonight we're covering introductory skills and resolving vectors. All welcome! youtube.com/watch?v=P-EF7-7q…
Elastic potential energy after lunch and nothing planned? I've got the questions sorted.
One A4 page, examples, full worked solutions and FT and HT versions - what else do you need?

All teachers know this. Why has it taken everyone else so long to work it out?
I loved classroom teaching. I believe in the transformative power of education.
But I don't miss the headaches, nausea, and insomnia.

One of my oldest friends Rob is bossing it on #mastermind tonight! Specialist subject - the Aztec Empire, got 12/12 🤯
Today I am WFP (working from parents). Is the best part of being here:
A. Mum was "just putting the machine on" when I got here
B. Dad making my fourth cup of tea of the morning
C. Time with the childhood pets I landed them with before leaving for uni...
In the last 10 years since leaving university, I've lost many of the skills that took years of painstaking work to master.
So I've stopped using my undergrad textbook as a door stop and I'm completing one hour of problems every week. Did anyone else use Tippler and Mosca?
Rule 1 - set expectations
Rule 2 - clear instruction
Rule 3 - praise effort, not outcome
It's really helpful that teaching horses and humans requires exactly the same rules, although I suspect Y11 are less motivated by carrots 🥕
My magnetism revision video went live last week, so for combined science all topics are done - triple will be completed on Friday. Worksheet can be downloaded on --> tes.com/teaching-resource/re…

This quote really speaks to me - I've always believed in having high expectations of my students. Some just need more of a reduction in cognitive load to get started
Recently, I heard the following quote: “not lowering the bar, but lowering the barrier”.
I think this is the clearest way to think about both adaptive teaching, and equity in our classrooms.
We’ve not seeking to lower the expectations for any learners, or to give them a reduced curriculum, but instead, consider what we can do to ensure that all of our learners have equal opportunity to achieve.
Very cool application of resonance for Y13. Seem to remember there was an OCR A question about resonance of buildings a few years back...
#physicsteachers - who has a good way of explaining for GCSE why the standard unit of mass is kg not g? #chatphysics
GCSE Gravitational potential energy questions on one A4 page, plus scaffolding, examples and full worked solutions, because lunchtime is for eating, not working out answers.

I was feeling a bit down - it's teaching week 3 and Y10 still have no respect for correct unit symbols. Then I read something like this and remember why I'm doing this job. I just really like Physics?
