Sylvia was the J-5 in charge of strategy, plans, and policy on the Joint Staff and the second one Hegseth has removed in 18 months.
He once led the 101st Airborne and has a Bronze Star with Valor, but sources say he pushed back on Iran war plans and clashed over Ukraine policy.
One source said he had been sidelined since the spring.
A senior Pentagon official confirmed he is under investigation for leaking classified information on the Iran war, the Russia-Ukraine war, and more, including meeting journalists outside the building.
He failed three polygraphs, and the case is now with the Justice Department.
