Please see the statement of Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo released following the passing of labor rights leader Dolores Huerta:
“I met Dolores Huerta soon after I took office in 2019, when we both shared a stage in Houston. Since then, it has been an honor each time I’ve had the opportunity to visit with her. It’s always been a privilege to know that she knew me! She was a creative, passionate, loving, force of nature of a woman, and a role model for me. Yes, she was 96. But, in her presence and her strength, she was ageless. I simply assumed she’d continue to be with us. I am heartbroken by her passing and will miss her deeply. I will also always be inspired by her,” said Judge Lina Hidalgo.
Since taking office, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo has led the county through some of its most challenging emergencies, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Winter Storm Uri, Hurricane Beryl, major flood events, hazardous material incidents, and being prepared for large-scale events like the World Cup.
As Harris County’s Director of Emergency Management Judge Hidalgo has worked along first responders, public health officials, and local, federal and state partners to coordinate emergency response, protect residents, and strengthen the county’s infrastructure for future disasters. We’re making sure that when Harris County residents need help, we use all resources available.

MYTH BUSTER #4!
Myth: Indoor pets don’t need to be spayed or neutered.
Fact: Even indoor pets can slip outside or encounter other animals. Spaying and neutering can help prevent unplanned litters.
Through Happy Pets, Healthy Communities, we’re sharing the facts that can help Harris County pet owners make responsible choices for their pets and our community.
Early Voting has started! Are you voter ready?
Before heading to the polls, make sure you have what you need. Texas voters voting in person should bring one of seven approved forms of photo ID, such as a Texas driver license, Texas personal ID card, U.S. passport, or one of the other accepted forms. Your voter registration card is not required, although the Texas Secretary of State recommends bringing it if you have it.
Don’t have an approved photo ID and can’t reasonably obtain one? You may still be able to vote by completing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and presenting an approved supporting document.
Early Voting: October 19–30
Election Day: November 3
You can also bring written or printed notes with you, but remember that cell phones, cameras, and other recording devices should not be used inside the polling place.
Check your registration, polling locations and official voting information before you go at VoteTexas.gov.
