I don’t understand cuz with how much they fit into this episode, you’d think they’d be like “yeah let’s cut out the 5 reaction shots of Vegeta that make the moment feel dragged out and less of an instant burst of anger” and they just didn’t do that lmao
Legit the more I rewatch this the more it feels like one of those One Piece pacing memes but it’s an actual thing released in the big 2026. And I mean One Piece has moments like this too but that is adapting a manga without getting caught up and this is actively trying to trim material down for the sake of time
Damn I didn’t think Mrs. GREEN APPLE had as many haters as they did, but it really sucks that they used AI for their new music video when they’re as big as they are. I wouldn’t say all of their recent music is for me, but from the past few years their recent anime songs, Darling, and some of their new album tracks are pretty damn good. And even tho some of their stuff is in the line of “Japanese coworker music”, I feel like the people that make those claims don’t see the experimental stuff they do like Tengoku and the RADWIMPS song they picked to cover or just that Omori is a fantastic vocalist in general.
I like using the OP as an insert song as much as the next guy, but what is Black Clover’s deal doing it like every episode this season? Just kinda diminishes it when it’s all the time rather than a once in a while thing
The one thing I feel like that gives MHA the upper hand is that it bridges the gap between the different generations of shonen anime songs. You got classic bands like Pornograffitti, UVERworld, and BUMP OF CHICKEN, anime artists and bands that were big in the 2010s like LiSA, KANA-BOON, and MAN WITH A MISSION, and then some of the newer pop rock artists and bands like Ryokushaka, Yuuri, Yonezu (albeit they got him in 2017 when he was still growing as an artist), Eve and Omoinotake. Apothecary Diaries hasn’t gone on quite long enough to have a similar effect but it would be cool to see if it does at some point
Please tell me this is bait cuz I feel like the goal post on what is “too much” keeps getting moved further and further ever since some people act like Chinese anime has over animation and people complaining about Vincent Chansard’s style of animation (which I understand the criticisms even though I like his stuff and think 90% of the time it’s justified in context)
It’s kinda a shame with the types of discussions surrounding the existence of TNM’s fan animation cuz what was made as an insanely passionate fan effort to do what couldn’t be done in Super’s schedule now boils down to a mere comparison and specifically finding things wrong with the fan version now that an official remake is out instead of the initial appreciation for it as an immense effort by fans for fans
This is kinda a hard list for me to do cuz there’s what I think are my favorite animators of all time and then there’s the animators that are putting out my favorite stuff currently.
In terms of my all time favs list:
1. Yoshimichi Kameda
2. Shinya Ohira
3. Vincent Chansard
4. Yutaka Nakamura
5. Weilin Zhang
6. Kai Ikarashi
7. Takeshi Honda
8. Norio Matsumoto
9. Bahi JD
10. Keiichiro Watanabe
Honorable mentions to Hiroyuki Okiura, Kouki Fujimoto, Kosuke Kato, Ryo Onishi, Toshiyuki Inoue and many others (it’s just hard to boil down the insane amount of GOATed animators there are to just a few names)
And then for my current favs list:
1. Weilin Zhang
2. Vincent Chansard
3. Vercreek
4. Akihiro Ota
5. Jack-Amin Ibrahim
6. Takeshi Maenami
7. Tam Lu
8. Julian Bentley
9. Nian41
10. Daniel Kim
Honorable mentions: Kai Ikarashi, Hsu Injia, Shinnosuke Tanaka, Miton, Honehone, Ryo Onishi, Bahi JD, Masanobu Hiraoka, Saucelot, Sou Miyazaki and many others for the same reason once again
And I’m proving my point that it’s hard to boil down because I’m already thinking of more that I would’ve listed: Nakaya Onsen, Kenichi Kutsuna, Kazuto Nakazawa, Keisuke Mori, Yoh Yoshinari, Hiroyuki Yamashita, Shuu Sugita, Rui in the current list, Kohei Hirota in the current list, etc. Also feel like I should mention Toshiyuki Sato and TNK but it’s hard cuz on one hand, they show up on so many projects and because of that, not every contribution they put out is their best work, but the peaks of what they’ve done is some of the best in the medium
Even though the upcoming Ikarashi anime (not Cyberpunk 2) doesn’t really seem like my vibe, it does seem like a passion project for him (he literally said 4 years ago that he wanted to direct it) so I’m definitely giving it an episode or 2 to see the vision. I’m sure it will be a treat in terms of the visuals but we’ll see about everything else
Idk if I’m just getting old or what but lowkey outside of Basara idk what would really get me super hyped that I could imagine Viz licensing. Imo I don’t think much else needs the definitive edition treatment outside of maybe Dorohedoro and Dragon Ball (and idk if I can even trust them to get DB right considering their “uncensored” 3-in-1 release still having stuff like middle fingers censored) but if they actually did and it was Kanzenban level quality that would be awesome

Welp hearing the full song kinda has me on the side of people not messing with it. I get having a motif in the song but it gets to a point where it feels like every other lyric in the song is “I WILL WIN” or “I WONT” and it feels tiring to listen to after a while. Some people also think it’s AI, which I don’t think is true considering how the artist has been around for quite a bit, but something about his voice is kinda weird and more noticeably weird in the full version. Vicke’s ED is still a banger in the full version tho
The new DBS opening is something. I fuck with the song but the visual is just kinda all over the place for me. They have a section going through Goku over the years (I’m guessing for nostalgia sake) but it feels stiff at points and it’s in Yamamuro designs so we’ve seen this a bunch of times already and idk why they’d put this in a Super OP when neither of the original Super OPs had this. And then a good chunk of the rest of the OP feels like that “clip spam” vibe I get from the JJK season 3 OP and the recent Tokyo Revengers OP where too much shit is happening in not enough time (except for Goku turning SSB during the chorus which feels like the opposite effect of not enough happening during a hype moment of the song). I like how they synced Goku yelling to the scream in the song tho and the Kamehameha at the end is nice
With the kinda song the Beerus ED is, a really good dance visual could've been fire (and also goofy af lmao)
DBS Beerus ED has the same issues as the OP but imo much worse. It may not be Black Catcher levels of greatness, but if you’ve heard any of Vickeblanka’s non-anime music in recent years, this is probably his best since like 2023, albeit maybe not the most fitting thing for DB. The visual though is just not good, like a clip show and the CG Shenron is just not great. Toei is capable of good CG with Super Hero and The First Slam Dunk but this was just not it
