I watch a lot of HS and Travel Baseball and here’s what gets evaluated that most players/coaches/understand:
1. Catch Play - how do you treat “getting loose” before a game? Is there meaning to it or are you just throwing to throw….
2. Ground Balls between innings - 7-3-21
7 inn, 3 GBs/inn, 21 reps/game. How do you treat those? How are your throws?
3. On Deck Reps - What are you doing to prepare for your AB? You have three responsibilities. 1. Time the Pitcher, 2. Communicate w/base runners 3. Relay location to hitter. You’re not there to “get loose”
4. Response to Failure - how do you respond to a Strikeout, an error, a bad call, giving up a bomb?
5. Communication - Are you talking between pitches, directing cutoffs, helping teammates w/ pitcher tendencies, etc.
6. Competitiveness In Non Game Situations sprinting on and off the field, backing up bases, prep steps, moving with hitters tendencies, does every pitch matter?
These are the aspects of the game that are often taken for granted but make a huge difference for your evaluation.

Advice to pitchers as summer travel baseball heats up:
• Prioritize rest, recovery, and strength training. The busiest part of the year is often when those things get neglected. Listen to your arm.
• Chase outs, development, and learning how to attack hitters.
• Velocity is built through consistent throwing programs, recovery, strength training, and long-term development. Not by throwing tired.
• Learn a changeup. Every serious pitcher should have one.
• Spin wins. The better feel you have for a breaking ball, the better off you will be.
• Throw strikes. Free bases are still the fastest way to runs scoring.
• Compete. Body language matters. Your teammates, coaches, and college recruiters are always watching.
The goal isn't to win June.
The goal is to be a better pitcher in August than you were in March. ⚾

Young players, this is the vast majority of the college coaching mindset.
Young players, understand this:
College athletics isn't a hobby. For coaches, it's their livelihood. Their job is to be competitive and win, and they'll play the best prepared players. Period.
You're not owed playing time, a lineup spot, or opportunities.
I've seen talented players coast through high school on athleticism and praise, only to get exposed in college because they never learned how to struggle, adapt, and compete.
The players who last are the ones who:
• Work
• Fail
• Adjust
• Work more
• Earn opportunities
• Repeat
Success is built through adversity, not comfort.
Before chasing college athletics, ask yourself:
"Am I willing to do whatever it takes to help my team win?"
"Am I the type of player a coach would stake his career on?"
If the answer is YES,that’s great.
Get back to work, prepare and don’t stop.
Chase your dreams.
Get after it!
Good luck.

Velocity gets attention. Execution wins games✅
St. Mary’s (89.6 mph) beat the No. 1 overall seed.
VCU (89.4) eliminated Tennessee.
Washington State (88.2) beat Oregon State.
Little Rock (90.1) won a regional.
Miami rolled out 93-97 mph bullpen arms that struggled to throw strikes.

There are a lot of ways to throw 95+
Figure out what works for you.
Move mass fast.. no need to overcomplicate it.
Guys who throw hard aren't feeling through positions.. they're violently, athletically moving through them.

"When you're out there in the heat of the moment, and it's a big situation, and you're saying DON'T throw a ball, DON'T give up a hit, DON'T walk this guy...the harder you want to control something, the more it gets out of your control."

“It’s not just about you.”
The best teams he played on?
The best players practiced the hardest.
When you compete for each other, it’s contagious.
