Praise God for baptisms and new members in Venezuela! This past Sunday, Pastor David Araujo and his congregation celebrated their church's 13th anniversary with baptisms welcoming new members. To accommodate everyone, they rented a farm for the special occasion. David writes: “It was a beautiful time of Christian fellowship and rejoicing in the Lord for His grace among us.” Please pray for these new members, for Pastor David, and for the congregation. Pray that they would grow in the knowledge of Christ and remain faithful in proclaiming His gospel in Venezuela.

An update on Shuiling’s recovery from a family member: “Despite her severe malnutrition and the fact that she still has the ileostomy, last Friday, Shuiling said she wanted to come to the church worship service. By the grace of the Lord, today she attended and was able to worship publicly for the first time since her conversion in the hospital. We are full of joy. The church has been greatly encouraged and challenged to keep trusting the Lord as they’ve seen the powerful work of the Holy Spirit in Shuiling’s life. Many of the brothers and sisters had tears on their faces, and so did we. But this time they were tears of rejoicing at the great goodness of our God. I am sharing this with you so you can rejoice with us and so the Lord may be exalted. The Lord keeps answering His church’s prayers far more abundantly than we ask or expect. To Him be the glory. Thank you for praying so much for Shuiling.”

In the town of Pucioasa, Romania, rests Betania Biserica Baptista, the first church plant that HeartCry partnered with in the nation. The story of this church begins with HeartCry missionaries Nico Vulpe and Sorin Prodan. These two men were friends from college who were equally burdened to plant an evangelical church in Pucioasa. Together in 1998, they began their church planting ministry. God gave them a small congregation, and Nico was ordained as their pastor. Though they had no building at the time, this small, faithful group continued to gather wherever they could. Twelve years later, God provided a wonderful property for the church to grow. Now, after pastoring the church in Pucioasa for twenty-three years, Nico is not only blessed by HeartCry’s partnership, but humbled by the overwhelming prayers for him and the congregation. A HeartCry missionary in a protected location in South Asia recently shared of a Bible conference that his church held in partnership with other local churches. This missionary writes: "Our church recently partnered with some other local churches. We decided to hold a two-day quarterly conference called the Biblical Leadership Conference. Our goal is to reach out to other pastors from surrounding churches—those who have never received any Bible or seminary training—to help them grow in biblical teaching so that they can equip their churches to be biblical. Several weeks ago, we held the first quarterly conference on the topic of how to study the Bible. We held seven sessions covering the following topics: ·      The goal of Bible study ·      The inductive Bible study method ·      Studying the Old Testament and New Testament ·      Bible genres Another pastor and I had the privilege of speaking at the conference. There were 50 participants. It was very encouraging and edifying. We praise God for this wonderful opportunity to be part of advancing the kingdom of God in South Asia. Would you please pray that we would be able to continue this conference and be a blessing to many churches surrounding us?" Note: pictures blurred for security purposes.

"In 1947, after World War II, Romania came to be under a ferocious regime: the communist regime that was imposed by USSR. And this country suffered a lot. During that time, the regime hated the Christians. Churches were closed. Pastors were arrested and sent into prison. We remember names like Richard Wurmbrand, Nicolae Moldoveanu, Teodor Popescu and other men of God that suffered a lot under that regime. But by God's grace, in 1989, Romania became a free country. We found our freedom, and the gospel began to spread all over Romania. Lots of missionaries and pastors from the West came to Romania to preach Christ. Of course, not all were good pastors; not all preached a biblical gospel. But the Lord blessed us to have some good men that inspired us to plant churches." – HeartCry missionary Sorin Prodan Watch the full video about the spiritual history and landscape of Romania on our YouTube channel — "Look to the Field: Romania"

Meet HeartCry missionary Jona Recaman. Jona is a pastor of the Evangelical Christian Church of Pontevedra. He and his wife, Miriam, have been married since 2005 and live in Pontevedra, Spain, with their children. Jona shares: “I had the privilege of growing up in a Christian family. Since I was a child, I was familiar with the gospel. It made sense to me, and most of the people around me those first years of my life were church attendees. When I was 11 years old, I went to a children’s camp, where I became a Christian. The director took the opportunity to explain the gospel to everyone there, and for the first time in my life, I was aware of the consequences of my sin and the condemnation I would face. That fear of eternal punishment led me to believe in Jesus and to repent of my sin. At that time my knowledge of the gospel was limited, but I did understand sin, eternal life, and the substitutionary death of Christ. Despite this, I struggled with whether my decision was sincere, and I feared that my life would prove my confession of Christ to be false. In spite of all this, I had a strong desire to serve the Lord, to serve at His church, and to be involved in ministry. God provided an opportunity for me to get training in a little Bible College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I went there with the conviction that I knew my Bible well, but God used those four years of training to show me that I was ignorant. I praise God for opening my eyes to my ignorance. I praise Him for showing me that salvation doesn’t depend on my decision, but only on Christ’s perfect work at the cross. I praise the Lord for teaching me how His perfect life was imputed to me, and how His grace is abundant. I praise God for giving me a biblical understanding of ministry, showing me the priority of preaching, and the goal of bringing glory to Him rather than ascribing glory to men. God has given me the desire, the training, and the confirmation of His calling to serve Him in His church through the preaching and teaching of His Word. I love the church more than ever, but I have also learned to love the Lord of the church more than the church."

"Soccer is big in Africa..." In the community of Twatasha, Zambia, Pastor Blessings Ndhlovu and Faith Baptist Church are faithfully reaching out through a unique means: soccer. Blessings explains in this short clip: "We are trying to reach out through the youth program, and especially through sports. Whatever ministry it is, it is supposed to reach out; whatever it is, it is supposed to evangelize. It's not just enough for us to be encouraging one another and glorifying God. Yes, this is very important, and we have to glorify God and encourage one another—the Bible speaks of these things. But also, the Bible speaks about evangelizing and reaching out to the community. Whichever meeting it is, we emphasize that they have to find a way and a means to reach out to the community."

In 1813, Adoniram Judson, the first Protestant missionary from America, arrived in Myanmar/Burma. He quickly set out to learn Burmese, the common language, so that he could translate the Bible into the people's language. Though faced with persecution and hardship amidst an overwhelmingly Buddhist culture, Judson completed the Burmese translation of the Bible (copy pictured). The Lord used him mightily to save many people, and many churches were planted in Myanmar. Over two hundred years later, the spiritual landscape remains plagued by Buddhism, as it was in Judson's time. Compounded with the darkness of Buddhist domination, Myanmar’s supposed Christianity is tangled with liberal and nominal distortions of the gospel. Where true believers are persecuted by Buddhists and even kicked out of their homes, nominal Christians are accepted. An indigenous Myanmar missionary, D.T., who has been a dear friend and co-laborer with HeartCry for a decade, explains: “The situation is hopeless. That is the human perspective. But, for us, the born-again Christians, there is hope in God." Despite opposition, the hope of the gospel is advancing in Myanmar. Believers in Myanmar daily live out Adoniram Judson’s hopeful declaration from many years ago: “In spite of sorrow, loss, and pain, our course be onward still; we sow on Burma's barren plain, we reap on Zion's hill.” Our documentary — "Hope Endures in Myanmar" — gives an up-close, personal account from Myanmar.
