The Helmsman Project

To take the #helm means to steer the ship - hence our name #Helmsman. We challenge #youngpeople to take ownership and direction of their #team, their #community projects and consequently their lives.

Our programs are founded on #research that shows #Year9 is an important stage in young people's development. The #decisions young people make and the skills they develop at this age play a critical role in determining their #engagement in #education and shaping their #future.

There’s no greater #skill needed in the 21st century world of work than that of #teamwork – knowing how to #engage #communicate and ‘be’ a good team member. Our latest #community & #Wellbeing Program has a team-based focus to enable young people to enhance their team-work skills.

Our #evidencebased #programs are like no other found in #highschools. We #challenge #youngpeople. We help them stretch their thinking and their capacity. And we do so whilst guiding them through a #coaching-based reflective process - because that’s where the #growth takes place!

Our vision: The Helmsman Project exists because we believe every #youngperson should have the #opportunity and support to reach their full #potential.

As a small team in a growing organisation with big goals it's essential for us to meet regularly to discuss #strategy. It means reflecting on how we can work together to achieve our goals. These discussions #unify and #empower us to deliver #programs with #Longlasting #impact.
