Since Badanoch mentioned yesterday that the equivalent of the population of York in terms of numbers have now "signed onto disability benefits", let me point out a number of things. Firstly, you don't "sign on" to disability benefits, and secondly, applications do not equal awards. In fact, in the last quarter, the number of applications that resulted in awards at any level, dropped significantly.

“Since yesterday, sleep has been impossible. I keep seeing the moment again and again, wishing I could change it. There was never any intention to harm him.
It was a football incident, nothing more, and I could never have imagined it would end this way.
The things being said online are hard to read. People are calling me names I won’t repeat. I understand the pain and the anger, but no one wants this outcome reversed more than I do.
To Jesús de Miguel’s family, his teammates, and everyone who cared about him, I can only offer my deepest condolences. If there was anything I could do to bring him back, I would do it. There isn’t.
This will stay with me for the rest of my life. My thoughts remain with those who loved him. May he rest in peace.”

Trump will REMAIN President, but what he CAN'T do now:
1. *Can't pass any law:*
Needs Parliament. With Democrats at 90, all his bills will be blocked.
2. *Can't get money:*
Parliament controls the budget. No funding for his MAGA projects, Wall etc.
3. *Faces Impeachment Risk:* Democrats can start investigations and even move impeachment.
4. *Can't appoint Judges/Officials freely:* Senate will block his picks.
5. *Can't do big foreign deals:*
Trade deals, war funding needs Parliament nod.
In short: He will stay in the White House, sign Executive Orders, but Parliament and Courts can overturn them.
He becomes a *Lame Duck President* - President in name, powerless in reality.

The club released an emotional statement:
“We are devastated by grief, with a lump in our throats, and unable to believe this is real.
“There are no words of comfort. There is absolutely nothing that can ease this overwhelming sadness.
“We stand alongside his devastated family, his loved ones and the entire Tenerife community, who are mourning this tragic loss.”
His family have thanked everyone for their support and requested privacy during this difficult time.

I’m fed up with certain politicians saying we need to “respect” the result of the 2016 Brexit referendum.
A decision by a narrow majority 10yrs ago that turned out to be a disaster does not have to be respected.
If a democracy cannot change its mind it ceases to be a democracy.

Ruben was born in a private zoo in the mountains of Armenia.
When the zoo’s owner died, the facility closed. The other animals found new homes, but nobody came for Ruben, a 10-year-old lion.
For the next six years, he lived alone in a concrete cell. His roaring gradually stopped. Those who checked on him heard only an occasional cry.
Eventually, Animal Defenders International (ADI) stepped in and arranged to rescue him.
Ruben was moved to a bear sanctuary in Armenia for treatment. Years of poor nutrition and almost no exercise had left him weak. His legs trembled when he walked, and veterinarians suspected spinal problems.
Because his transport crate was too large for a regular flight, a cargo airline generously flew him to freedom at no cost.
On August 23, 2023, after approximately 15 hours in the air, Ruben arrived at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa.
For the first time in nearly six years, he could hear and see other lions.
And then something beautiful happened.
Ruben began roaring again.
The sanctuary staff say his roars have been growing louder ever since.
His new enclosure includes grassy slopes and a shelter with heated floors. Staff even gave him a bag of catnip, which he happily played with for a long time.
Ruben still faces serious challenges. Cataracts cloud his eyes, and sometimes his legs give way beneath him. He will need specialized care for the rest of his life.
But now, he is no longer alone.
He lives among other lions, enjoys the sunshine, and has finally found a place where he can feel safe.
After six years of silence and isolation, Ruben’s roar has returned.
And this time, the world is listening.
