For the first time since I left Sister Cervi’s second grade classroom, I’m going to let the boat drift for a bit.
Channeling @AbbyWambach to thank my teammates these last 33 years:
"I was running to you when you scored, and pointed at you when I did."

Powerful moment and a great reminder:
Tell people what they mean to you while you still can. Celebrate them, honor them, thank them. You’ll regret it if you don’t.
The English have a word for this guy. We in America do too, but it's "taboo" to say. It fits this situation perfectly, though.
Meet this “nonviolent civil resistance” with a serious pummeling and we all kick in a Go Fund Me for a legal defense team, yeah?

About a decade ago we hosted @jockowillink on Staten Island and celebrated Way of the Warrior Kid with students from across the borough.
It's wonderful seeing this vital message being brought to the big screen.

It’s 10-0 with 2-outs in the top of the 9th and Joey Ortiz hits a routine fly ball to CF. Look at Sal Frelick rounding second…
A friend sent this photo of the back of City Hall being readied for a power washing. Hey @HMihaltses, can you please send this invoice to Marc Shaw? We, the tax payers, want our money.

A dude in the gym this morning looked like Coe from Slow Horses -- hoodie and all. I didn't know if I should be scared or feel safer.
Hard fought win, sought for a couple of decades.
Science experiment: study the cognitive dissonance when you tell Staten Islanders they have to thank @BilldeBlasio for getting me and Vinny Ignizio this $. 🤔

"We want someone to do the dirty work: the Irish aren't doing it any longer."

As a former NYC Council Member, I know this reality firsthand. My home was broken into. I received countless death threats. I had to install security cameras, panic buttons in my home and offices, and limit constituent visits to appointments only.
But the toll extends beyond elected officials. Our staff, who show up every day to serve our communities, are also forced to navigate fear, threats, and uncertainty. They and their families carry that burden, too.
No one should have to fear for their safety simply because they chose public service. When intimidation becomes normalized, it doesn’t just threaten individuals. It undermines our ability to serve the very communities that elected us.
Serving in public office in the U.S. is dangerous. A new normal of violent threats is making it worse, dozens of elected officials told the New York Times. nyti.ms/3VHM0Az
On the first anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s death, then Congressman James Garfield was asked by his delegation to give an impromptu eulogy — this despite having little seniority. He rose and gave an eloquent and empathic speech. It included this line:

Mike Tomlin offers a reminder of how much coaches give and what can get pushed aside along the way.
“Man, when you lead a football team and football organization, sometimes you put yourself last. So it’s been good to kind of focus on some things like [my wellness] and really just have time to be present with my family and friends.”
This is a small glimpse into the personal tradeoffs behind a career spent leading at the highest level.
There's no doubt that excellence requires commitment and many coaches willingly give because they care deeply about the work and the people they lead.
But stories like this should also prompt us to examine how we can better support them along the way.
On National Coaches Day, let’s celebrate the impact of coaches at every level and consider what they need to sustain it.
Time for their health. Presence with their families. Support for their own challenges.
Those things deserve a place in a coaching career too.
