The mistake you all make is by assuming College Football fans are only interested in watching their teams if they have a chance to make the playoff.
This isn’t the NFL. CFB fandom runs so much deeper than what your Team’s Record is any given year.
The 24 team playoff has people saying it will cause a drop in TV ratings and fan interest but in reality more fans will be engaged than ever before.
If your team is 8-0 you aren’t going to stop watching and if your team is 5-3 you also aren’t going to stop watching as your team is in the playoff hunt.
There will be 50+ teams with playoff hopes 2/3 of the way through the season.
The current system is actually more likely to cause fans to lose interest and move on from following their team closely.

Since the beginning of 2024 Auburn has not won more than 4 total games between 3 seasons in SEC conference play. Other SEC teams including Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, and South Carolina have won more than 4.
Can we get an update?

Rooting for the Kid
Tom Kim flew to Japan after the Presidents Cup to compete for South Korea at the Asian Games. After 3 rounds, he currently leads both the individual and the team event by 1 shot and if he wins either, he earns an exemption from mandatory military service for his country.
Huge day ahead for the 24 year old tomorrow.

CFB "leaders" are some of the biggest failures in the world...a 24-team CFP is the bailout they hope people are dumb enough to buy

The thing that made college football great is the emphasis on the regular season. That’s just no longer the case. It’s about the postseason like the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. CFB is no longer unique.
CFP leaders are closer than ever to expanding to a 24-team playoff. They are talking buyouts of conference title games and scheduling logistics of doubling the field.
Foregone conclusion?
“If we can get a decent (TV) deal, we are definitely going to 24.”
