If you're trying to understand why so many Michigan Jewish Democrats are defecting, I wrote in August about it. It's not, per se, about foreign policy. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…

By my @AEI colleague @KoriSchake. aei.org/foreign-and-defense-…
But he has not criticized an ad on his behalf....like Rogers will never criticize Trump's racism in calling AES a terrorist. @VanJones68 correctly calls for AES to condemn the ad
Obama really needs to condemn this ad.... as @vanjones68 has said AES must do also

The current Bibi-led government has 68 mandates.Tonight they got 50. 70 are against this government. This is a massive repudiation of the current Israeli government by the Israeli public. Israelis, Arab and Jewish, voted for change, with Arabs believing their vote mattered.

I have spoken out against anti-Muslim hate in the Michigan Senate race. I will speak out just as loudly when the target is Jewish people.
Let me state a little-known fact: ISRAEL GETS LESS THAN 0.1 PERCENT OF THE FEDERAL BUDGET. That’s less than one tenth of a percent!
But there is an ad running that tells voters they can’t afford groceries because the United States gives so much money to Israel. In reality, the United States spends money in and on countries all around the world – but this ad singles out the Jewish state. The ad is as dangerous as it is dishonest.
You can disagree with how the United States spends money abroad. But telling hungry families that the Jewish state is the reason they are suffering is wrong and shameful.
Blaming Jews for people’s problems is an old story. Anybody who has read the last century of history knows where it leads. It is a dark pathway.
This ad is anti-Jewish hate and should come down immediately. Abdul El-Sayed should denounce it today.

Eight years ago today, we suffered the deadliest act of antisemitism in American history when a killer entered Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh while people prayed and murdered 11 of our neighbors.
It’s been 2,922 days since the attack, but the pain still lingers in our Commonwealth. Today we offer prayers of comfort to those touched by this violence.
Let today be a moment for action, remembrance, and resolve to combat antisemitism in all forms.
May the memories of Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax, and Irving Younger forever be a blessing.

Having criticized El-Sayed for not forcefully condemning this ad, I will say this as well: it is crucial for Eisenkot and his potential coalition partners to win the Israeli election. Netanyahu has done great damage and he needs to go...for the sake of Israel and Jews everywhere.
Getting much support this morning, and also many hateful comments. So let me clarify: 1) I think El Sayed should condemn this ad; 2) We should all condemn Trump's hateful comments over the weekend calling El Sayed a terrorist, and Rogers should condemn them as well.
As much as I want Dems to control the Senate, I don't think I could ever support or vote for El-Sayed after this ad:

El-Sayed should condemn the ad. And Rogers should condemn the atrocious anti-
Arab garbage from Trump. What a disappointing pair that MI voters have to choose from
Replying to @HolzerHarry
people online saying this was a 2024 ad for Cenk Ugyer's presidential campaign (!) just tweaked and reposted. Its beyond despicable, but not sure you can blame El-Sayed for it.
But to be clear: I wouldn't vote for Rogers either, who has gone full MAGA

Though El-Sayed is distancing himself from the ad, he should forcefully condemn it - and so should Obama

It’s remarkably easy to go through your life as a non-Jew barely thinking about Israel or antisemitism.
I think that’s how these ideas penetrated the Democratic Party. We had Jew-haters within our midst, but the issue never came up, so we just didn’t know. I didn’t know.
And they waited and waited and waited until this information warfare succeeded, and convinced people of this false genocide. Now we have all these antisemites operating in the Democratic Party, working on political goals that are literally identical to the jihadists. Annihilate Israel, controversialize Jews in American life, cede the Middle East to theocratic Islam.
And I will admit, I am among the responsible. I wish I’d started thinking about these issues earlier. Because now the cancer has metastasized and it may be too late.
I am sorry. I would make a lot of different decisions today.

New low for normalized Jew-hate in the American Democratic Party. Very sad:
Painting your political opponents as puppets of Jews, as this El-Sayed ad does, and as crazed baby-killers and money-grubbing villains who are the root cause of every bad thing not just in the world, but in your life—from wars to the price of eggs to the reason you can’t have free healthcare—is not just low-grade Jew-hate. It’s pure Third Reich stuff, translated directly from the original German.
Do you remember when Jewish Democrats in Michigan explained that they would vote for El-Sayed despite his open disdain for Jews, since there are many other important issues they need him to fight for? That anything was worth it to “defeat MAGA”?
Well, here’s El-Sayed’s answer to them: Don’t worry, all those issues we agree on, like healthcare, inflation, and climate change, I’m going to make them about Jews too! I will tell the public that the Jews are the reason they can’t have those things.

This ad is vile. One thing that's so despicable about far-left hatred of Israel is how quickly they just glide past the fact that Israel was subject to horrific terrorist violence. One does not have to agree with all Israeli policies (I certainly don't) to know that this is a grotesque caricature.
